Dear Upstate Locavores,

Happy autumn! We hope you all are off to a great start with your
autumn harvest and buying locally grown-fruits and vegetables from our
local farmers. The Fall Potluck in early September featured some
wonderful dishes made with late summer and early autumn produce.
Sally Gardner, Director of School Nutrition for the Pickens County
School District, gave a very informative talk about her efforts to
introduce fresh, nutritious food to students throughout the district.
You can find more details on our website (www.UpstateLocavores.com).

Mark your calendars for the Second Annual Farm Aid Festival at the
Clemson University Student Organic Farm. This event will take place on
Saturday, October 24, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Through this event, program
organizers aim to highlight the importance of local farms and support
research, education and outreach efforts at the farm. The event will
feature live bands, activities for the kids, keynote speakers and much
more!

You can find more information about the event at the following
website: http://www.clemson.edu/sustainableag/farm_festival.html

This year, the Upstate Locavores will be assisting with the Bake Sale
at the festival. Last year, we raised more than $500, through the
bake sale alone!

We would greatly appreciate it if you can donate some baked goods and
work on the day of the festival. You can drop your baked goods off at
the farm on Friday evening (Oct 23rd from 3-6pm) or Saturday morning
before 10 am. A list of ingredients should accompany each item for
allergy purposes.

(The farm is located just off Perimeter Road on the CU campus - see
the website for additional information)

Last year, popular items include various kinds of breads (pumpkin
bread, zucchini bread, etc.), cheese wafers, cookies, and muffins –
nearly everything sold out! And, if you can highlight a locally-grown
ingredient, that would be great as well!

If you are interested in volunteering on the day of the festival,
contact Kelly Gilkerson at kgi...@clemson.edu.

Thank you, in advance, for your support of this important event!
