Hello everyone,
As autumn settles in and as we begin to feel the onset of winter (sort of!), several of you have expressed an interest in accessing locally-grown and locally-processed food during the "off season."
I guess the first thing to remember is that for Mother Nature, there is never really an "off season"! There are several opportunities to obtain local food in our area.
First, don't forget about the informal local food market on Thursday afternoons, 3:30-6:30 p.m. at McClure's Bookstore in Clemson. The market will be in operation for the next two Thursdays (November 11 and November 18). We hope you can join us there. Next week, we will send a list of food that will be available for purchase. In the past few weeks, we've enjoyed the fresh produce from Baird Family Farm and Loose Stone Farm, along with meat from Billy Boers Goat Farm and from Roundabout Pork - yummy!
Second, Bub Dillon of Longbranch Farm in Fair Play just sent this message about his chickens: "I wanted to let you know that I have fresh whole chickens
available until Sunday. I f you could help pass the word. These are a barnyard
breed called Barred Rocks, sometimes Plymouth rocks, and average about 2.5 lbs.
I am currently selling them for $4.00 / lb. After Sunday they will still be
available but I will be freezing them. Thanks for your help. Bub Dillon, Longbranch Farm,
864-304-5133."
So, if you're interested in fresh chicken, contact Bub.
Happy autumn everyone!
