Even better, these oatmeal cookies are delicious-forward rather than oat-forward, if you catch my drift. Just the right level of sweetness, crackly on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside, there will be not a single leftover (except for your full bag of raisins) after baking up a batch.
PS This recipe comes from Christina Tossi's Milk Bar Life cookbook of amazingness. She's a rockstar and these cookies prove that, hands-down. Bake up a batch and you'll show the world that you're an oatmeal cookie rockstar, too.
The other important fact about these oatmeal cookies is that there's a secret ingredient. And, you don't even taste the secret ingredient, but it gives this oatmeal cookie the perfect consistency, height, and chew.
For example, we assembled one of her Malted Chocolate cakes and with the leftover cake crumbs, we made white chocolate dipped chocolate malt truffles using Ovaltine milk to bind the cake crumbs together. Brilliant and super yummy!
The results were very different and I must say, the coconut should not be optional. This is totally my opinion, but the texture changes dramatically without the coconut - the cookie bakes up much flatter and crispier.
If you like your cookies that way, by all means, bake away! If you prefer a thicker and chewier cookie, definitely include the coconut. Here is a picture of the two batches - the one on the left includes the coconut and the one on the right does not. See what I mean?
Now go forth and bake! With or without coconut (but definitely consider with!). Then park yourself in front of Netflix's Chef's Table episode with Christina Tosi while indulging in a stack of these delicious oatmeal cookies - you won't be sorry!
Hi Sheri! A gluten-free version of these is a great idea. You can easily substitute gluten-free oats for the old fashioned oats. As far as low carb, that might be a bit trickier for this recipe but still doable. Maybe substitute the sugars for lower carb versions and use unsweetened coconut instead of sweetened. Give it a shot and let us know how they come out!
Thanks, Christy! They are ? I actually do like raisins and I like oatmeal raisin cookies, too, but they're not my favorite... And I know a lot of others who also do not like raisins, particularly kids! So I wanted to share an oatmeal cookie recipe that does not have raisins since you typically see oatmeal raisin a lot. Thx for asking!
Made these today, stunning! Easy to make and really tasty. I split half mixture as is which are yummy and added some mini choc chips to other half. Both good but I prefer original recipe. Thanks for passing this recipe on...I've made crack pie a couple of times, now these cookies next is the birthday cake and the confetti cookies. Thanks again for this fab recipe I highly recommend it!
For me, lemon is a flavor that goes so well with the warmer months. It brightens up any dish including, of course, dessert! For these Lemon Crumb Bars, I mashed together a bunch of my recipes and added in this citrus rockstar.
I recently published a simple recipe for Soft and Chewy Sugar Cookies that are not only the bomb (does anyone say that anymore?), but also serve as the perfect crust, aka layer #1, in these Lemon Crumb Bars.
Make the butter crumb topping. In a separate bowl blend all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and lemon zest. Using your fingers, a fork, or pastry cutter, work in the butter. Combine it until the ingredients are combined but the streusel is still crumbly.

I installed 3 recently for nostalgic reasons and expected to have a good laugh at how dated the graphics would look, i'm now playing 3 more than 4 along with SA and VC, dropped 4 like a hot potato, jk.
Not knocking 4, not playing mainly as it's an xmas gift, also waiting for the drivers and patches to be all sorted out before i start playing would be best and if it's next February so be it 3, VC, and SA are just as good as 4 if you ask me.
The game was made through 2000 and 2001 (possibly 1999 but I'm not too sure), what, do you want it to look like a perfect masterpiece? Do you want it to look like GTA IV which came out seven years later?
GTA III's graphics aren't and were never anything spectacular, and I know other games from 2001 on the PS2 looked x10 better, i.e. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - but it's not the point. GTA III was a revolutionary 3D sandbox game where you could do pretty much anything you wanted in a city. Kill people, steal cars, do stunts, drive how and where you like and do missions optionally.
The whole atmosphere of the game is superb; the skies, the colors, the rain, the lights etc... So perfect. I just love cruising the city and watch the engine do its thing. The plot of the game was so cool and interesting, it just kept you going. The gangs, the guns, the vehicles, the cities... It all made it so great
It was f*cking epic and still is. For a game of it's size, the graphics are truly great. Not fantastic, but they're great and you don't notice the few flaws it has. The whole game atmosphere is in control and that's what a game is about. You create an atmosphere that fits the gameplay and they succeeded. It was groundbreaking due to the size merged with the graphics and gameplay.
Wow, if I want good graphics I could just do some high poly monster in 3ds max and animate it. But that doesn't interest me! It's not what makes games great. Half Life isn't a good looking game because of the engine only. It's also due to the technical limitations they did NOT meet. In GTA you have to render a huge world with a huge amount of details without loading.
I'm guessing you never played Grand Theft Auto back in 2001, that's why you think the graphics are rubbish. But to the rest of us "GTA" fans, GTA III is a classic game that gave gamers the freedom to explore a huge city in full 3D.
I'm gonna whip out GTA III today I think, haven't played it in a while, and it always takes me back to the first time I played it in 2001 and was completely blown away by it's brilliance, uniqueness & freedom.
without III's "sh*tty" graphics alot of games would look worse than they do. III probably had the best graphics of any game in 2001 that gave u as much freedom as it did. would u imagine niko bellic in a more san andreas graphics form. without 3 we take a step back and san andreas has pretty bad graphics compared to other games made today but in 2004 thats the only game people talked about and same with III but vice city actually i think suuked badly because it had no real connection with the other story lines.
Gta3 was a memorable game of my past the first time i played at a mates house i said im buying this so i went out and bought it this was a classic game and to stay on topic if you think the graphics are bad i would like too see you make a better game thats all i have to say
GTA III for a 2001 game isn't too bad for graphics. The GTA Series has never really been about graphics though and unless it's essential to gameplay Graphics aren't the first thing I judge a game by.
For example I still play a load of older games on the SNES, Megadrive and even the Atari 2600. The graphics are nothing special but the games are awesome in fact I can play a game like Galaxian longer in one sitting then I've played a Grand Theft Auto game.
I assume all these people whining that gta3 'looks bad' are young? Very young ie below the age of 18 which you have to be to play gta games? I also assume these people who say gta 3 looks bad are also so young they have no idea how technology has been developing in the past say 20 years? Year on year processors and graphics cards are getting better and better so developers can make better looking and longer games. My laptop bought 2 years ago for 400 is worse than laptops for sale at 200 today. Times move on technology advances developers produce games for the hardware which is available at the time.
Well, some people are smarter some arent. For example, me:I do care about graphics when it comes to playing a game, but some games never get old.I know a few people of my age that dont even know to apreciate graphics.I really hate them when they say that game is better because you can do that, but a game aint really only about features.
The graphics looked disgraceful. I know it is a VERY old game but it's impossible to think then what the graphics would be like in 2008. I mean you compare GTA IV's graphics to GTA III and you would not be able to think that the GTA franchise could be formed from this pathetic game.
The story line was terrific and Dan Houser deserves all credit for it. Asuka and Kenji's missions at the casino where quite amazing. Getting the keys to the lock up and inheriting all those weapons along with the money terrific.
Okay it comes to this. Compare gta 2 to gta 3. HUGE DIFFRENCE!!! Compare gta 3 to gta 4. HUGE DIFFRENCE. 2 is kickass and i love it but 3 was just revolutionary. My point being for the time all gtas were revolutionary. So love em, hate em, whatever cause 5 is only gonna be better than 4 and so on and so on till my grandkids have 9 and they dont even understand the meaning of gta 4 lol.
In most of the GTA's, there was a silenced pistol. GTA IV being as kickass and realistic as it is. That pistol could really come in handy. Executing peds for cars would be a hell of a lot easier. Does anybody else agree?
