Thesecond series of Supect is coming back to our screens starting tonight (Thursday, July 17) with a number of new faces joining the Channel 4 drama. The gripping drama, a reimagining of the Danish smash-hit Forhret, initially followed a detective unravelling the mystery of his daughter's murder to find her killer.

The plot synopsis adds: "When a mysterious new client Jon (Cooper) admits under hypnosis that he is a murderer and intends on killing another young female that evening, Susannah knows he must be stopped at all costs.

James Nesbitt is not expected to the Channel 4 series, but there will be a wave of new actors joining the second series. Eddie Marsan from The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, appears as Alistair Underwood while Tamsin Greig breaks away from comedy to star in a drama.

Jon Fallow is one of the main characters in series two after he admits he is a murderer and wanted to kill a woman. Dominic Cooper described Jon as an "extremely very damaged person and in need of serious help" but remarked Dr Susannah Newman is drawn to him.

Ben Miller is one of two actors returning for season two as Danny's old boss and Detective Superintendent Richard Groves. He wants to explore more about the character and describes him as "a character with his heart in the right place and yet he's a suspect like all of the characters."

Natasha Groves is a high-end corporate lawyer who had worked for the Crown Prosecution Service, and has given that up in order to make a name for herself in the legal world, but also within the corporate world. She is also married to Ben Miller's Detective Superintendent Richard Groves and could be brought into the firing line as a suspect.

Commenting on the role, she said: "I had seen some of the first series and I had been captivated by the class acting militia - the smorgasbord of really great talent. Also, the fact that the eps were mostly two handers which is very unusual for television because usually we need lots and lots of action characters and complicated storylines."

It is a different kind of role for Tamsin Gregg who is predominately known for her comedic roles in Green Wing, Friday Night Dinner and Episodes. She has also featured in Belgravia, Sexy Beast, Elementary and The Tiger Who Came to Tea and narrated The Secret Life of the Zoo and Royal Cousins at War.

Vinette Robinson plays firearms officer Louisa McAdams who has recently returned to active duty. She is interrupted at work by Susannah who had been her therapist and there is a clear hostile atmosphere between them.

Eddie Marsan won plaudits for his portrayal of John Darwin in the ITV drama The Thief, His Wife and the Canoe, Terry Donovan in Ray Donovan and Peter Page in The World's End. He recently made an appearance in Netflix hit Supacell.

"And, I have always wanted to work with her. I hadn't read any of the scripts. I knew nothing about the show, but they said Anne-Marie Duff was doing it, and it was all two handers. And I said, absolutely, I'll do it. Very simple."

Kate is a psychotherapist who bumps into Susannah in a chance encounter. Gina commented about her role: "It's kind of odd, in a way, to talk about Kate as a character, because the series is very plot driven and the things we know about Kate are minimal, and that fits.

Directed by Carolina Giammetta (Before We Die, Hollington Drive), Episodes 1 to 5 have been written by Joy Wilkinson and Episodes 6 to 8 have been written by David Allison. Jo McGrath and Walter Iuzzolino are the executive producers and Dylan Rees is the series producer.

Ben Miller, noted for his character DI Richard Poole in the Death in Paradise series, has bagged a fresh role in a crime thriller. He's set to join Anne Marie-Duff from Bad Sisters in Channel 4's chilling series Suspect.

An initial trailer of the new season showcases Dr Susannah Newman, portrayed by Anne Marie-Duff, embroiled in a spine-chilling narrative as she grows doubtful that her newfound client, brought to life by Dominic Cooper from Mamma Mia, could be a killer. After a confession by him about murdering women, she becomes unsure of her next move and soon faces grave danger.

The trailer highlights Detective Superintendent Richard Groves, played by Ben, questioning the doctor - "Your daughter kills herself and you want to save a girl's life? " To this, a defensive Susanna retorts "Oh please," before Richard proclaims: "There is no evidence, no bodies.."

A teaser for the official summary hints at a compelling plot: "When a mysterious new client Jon makes a disturbing confession under hypnosis, Susannah is forced to embark on her own deadly mission to save a life, the way she couldn't do with her own daughter", reports the Express.

Anne-Marie couldn't contain her excitement about the new season, saying: "I'm so pleased to be returning to Suspect to be able to dig deeper into the character of Dr Susannah Newman. Expect lots of twists, turns, and revelations alongside more questions to be answered. I can't wait for viewers to see what we've done with the second series."

She spilled the beans to Channel 4 about her role, stating: "She is Danny's ex-wife and a psychologist who employs various techniques such as hypnotherapy. They share a daughter, Christina, and their relationship is complex."

She went on to describe the charged atmosphere when the characters reunite in the show: "When they encounter each other in the series, they carry two burdens: one filled with sorrow over their daughter's loss, the other brimming with unresolved issues surrounding failed relationships. When he enters and they see each other, it's evident they haven't had a proper meeting for some time, so it's charged with all sorts of energy."

Channel 4 Drama Commissioning Executive Ben Wadey expressed his delight at the return of the show, commenting: "We're thrilled to be collaborating with Eagle Eye Drama once more to bring back Suspect for its second series. With Anne-Marie Duff reprising her role as Dr Susannah Newman and an exceptional ensemble cast that includes Dominic Cooper, Tamsin Greig and Eddie Marsan, Channel 4 viewers are in for a treat when this airs."
