Last one of these I went to had a LOT of companies looking for equity share help (meaning no pay unless the company does well). Up side is you get a chance to develop a skill you might not otherwise be able to (IOW - since they're looking for essentially free help, you can use this as a way to transition from one career to another).
It's another way to get in front of hiring managers, potentially inventing a job for yourself, and increasing your chances of getting hired.
