Dear members of UPenn IEEE,
The Brown IEEE (Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers) branch is organizing a university level robotics competition that is planned to take place at the end of this academic year. We would like to extend an invitation to your group to be part of this exciting new competition. The primary purpose of this communication is to gauge interest in the competition. We ask that you let us know if you would be at all interested, and there is no obligation to participate based on your response to this email. Also, we ask that you share this information with any potentially interested parties. As will be explained further, this is a team competition and there may be more than one team per institution.
Since this is our first competition and details will be announced later than typically, we plan to make this year’s goals attainable and not too rigorous while remaining challenging. We do not want to give away too many details as of yet, but to whet your appetite, some of the general contest details are as follows:
We plan to hold the competition at Brown University in Providence, RI sometime in April 2012. We will work to plan a date that will not conflict with examination periods. The competition will be based on both robot construction and programming. The project will require robot path finding capabilities; e.g. navigating a random, branching path. Other challenges are pending. We hope that the required budget for the competition per team will be in the $500 to $1000 range, but there is no set price range.
Registration will open for the competition towards the end of November. The requirements for teams will be announced, but for now the team members must be undergraduates. There is no minimum or maximum number of members per team.
Once again, please pass this along to those you think may be interested.
We look forward to your response.
Sincerely,
The Brown IEEE Executive Board
