ISC Networking is the central organization at the University of Pennsylvania
that designs, deploys and maintains PennNet, the campus data network
connecting over 100 buildings and over 20,000 networked computers.
ISC Networking runs central systems in support of campus DNS, WWW, DHCP,
campus user authentication, directory and email services, and more.
ISC Networking seeks an experienced UNIX Systems Administrator to join
our team.

Position: SYSTEMS PROGRAMMER III (03273CP)
Location: The University of Pennsylvania, Philadelpha, PA

Duties:
* Participate as a team member in maintaining UNIX systems providing
services to the PennNet user community;
* Plan & oversee the development & installation of new computer systems;
* Help to establish standards & evaluate hardware & software products for
use in networked-computer infrastructure;
* Track advancements in new hardware & operating systems technology &
provide reports on findings.
Qualifications:
* BA/BS in computer science or related field or three-five yrs.
professional experience in design & implementation of systems software
& hardware, preferably in an Internet-connected environment;
* Knowledge of and hands-on experience configuring the X window
system, SMTP mail, IP nameservice, ftp file transfer servers, time
protocol servers, Usenet News;
* Expert knowledge of UNIX operating systems (Digital UNIX experience
a big a plus);
* Ability to do basic programming in Perl and/or UNIX shells;
* Ability to identify system performance problems, and to perform
analysis and systems tuning to address the problem;
* Ability to solve problems quickly and completely. Ability to
identify tasks which require automation and automate them;
* Understanding of the fundamentals of networked-computer security;
* Knowledge of and hands-on experience with TCP/IP and native
networking for DOS, Windows and Macintosh computers;
* Some familiarity with networking hardware: routers, terminal
servers, modems, fiber optics, Ethernet equipment, RS-232;
* Good writing & group-working skills.
