Technical Consulting:
Assist in solving specific technical problems that are beyond
the scope of the normal user. Perform installation and
updates of some software packages.
Dept Systems Support/Daily Operations
Support the operations, students, research staff, and faculty
of the Distributed Systems Lab and the Center for Human
Modeling and Simulation. Coordinate systems backup & recovery,
add and maintain user accounts.
Install/Maintain Desktop systems
Perform installation, setup, and routine updates of
workstations, xterminals, and PCs. Assist in tracking software
and hardware problems to insure that they are repaired
properly. Followup with vendors as necessary, until the
problems are resolved. Maintain systems at current vendor
patch levels. Primary applicable platforms include
Sun and SGI workstations. Other equipment includes various
PC's and special-purpose peripheral equipment.
Qualifications:
BS in CS or related field required. 3 years experience using UNIX
systems (may be concurrent with education), fluency in C, Perl, and
another high level language. Prior IRIX system administration
necessary. Solaris and NT support experience desirable,
experience with UNIX to PC application bridging helpful. Ability
to work independently, and good interpersonal and organizational
skills required.
This position provides an opportunity for systems administration
in a congenial, dynamic research environment.
This is a full-time position with generous health, education, and
retirement benefits. Salary to mid 40s.
The individual filling this position will work with faculty, students,
postdoc researchers, CIS Technical staff, several other system
programmers in affiliated groups, and the manager of CIS Department
Computing.
