Does anyone know of new bike lanes being installed at the U?

There is a criss-cross bike lane going in. North-South and an East-West through the middle of campus. Bike only is what I hear, but put a small bell on your bike to let folks know where you are at.
Not sure when it is going to be painted.

I work at the Eccles Broadcast Center (on the golf course, below the
Hospital). I commute by bike (in seasonal weather). I'm concerned
about the portion of the bike lane that is in front of the Virginia
Tanner Dance building and then turns the corner to go down Balif road.
The portion of the lane that is in front of the building is exactly
where parents park to let their children out as they go to dance
classes. This is part of my regular bike commute. When there are cars
and kids present, I find it much safer to take the sidewalk behind the
building. Did the planners consider this option?

Worse than this is the portion of the lane that goes down Balif road
and into the parking lot. The bike lane is located in the lane that
cars use to exit the parking lot. Why on earth would anyone plan to
have traffic going in opposite directions assigned to the same lane!
Head-on collisions happen very quickly. In a car vs. bike head-on,
gues who loses?

The assigned bike speed limit is 8 mph. The cars in that lane have a
10 mph speed limit. There are no posted warning signs to alert drivers
to the fact that a bicycle may be in the same lane and heading
straight for them.

I know that I need to be twice as alert because drivers aren't paying
enough attention to the road. Did the planners of this bike lane
assume that the cyclist could quickly maneuver out of the way if a car
is posing a head-on-collision danger? What if there is another car,
entering the road that blocks the escape route?

Why is this portion of the bike lane so poorly planned?

Hello forum,
My name is Adam Bradbury and I am doing a small documentary for one of my classes on bicycling as a feasible method of transportation and am looking for any volunteers to do a small interview about why they believe in commuting by way of bike. It's not a commercial project just an assignment and if anyone would like to volunteer a few moments to be interviewed that would help me out a lot.

Last night I experienced this first hand. Coming down balif road in
the bike lane and a car approached me going the opposite direction and
I was forced out of the bike lane. A much better route would have
been down HPER highway.

As many others have said, these lanes could have used some additional
planning. More signage would really help, pedestrians aren't paying
attention to the lanes. I'm dodging students on cell phones
constantly. There's plenty of room to walk outside these bike lanes,
why are the students ignoring them?
