Exam Type A on utoronto.ca - Website says open book. Can you clarify the discrepancy?

From website "All exams are open book/lecture notes and you are required to bring some form of valid picture ID. The dates and times of the exams will be announced in the newsgroup."

I don't think the prof reads the news group, emailing him directly and maybe CCing the news group address would probably be best.
