PPP/Netscape

I am using a PowerMac 7200. I just updated Netscape from version
2 to version 4 using the 98-99 UO CD. Here are some symptoms.

Using PPP directly stalls at making contact after dialing and connecting.
Starting with Netscape paralizes the computer and can only be
revitalized by cutting off power. (The first time Netscape revved up all
right. I was able to set it up for 2 users, but this was probably prior
to an attempted PPP connection)

The above attempted connections were to oregon.uoregon.edu. I
also tried fetch with my own server jas1.uoregon.edu. A connection was
made but the computer stalled on "put" or "get" commands and I had to
quit the application.

I am using Open Transport 1.1.2.

Advice would be appreciated.
