1.) Go to www.netscape.com and download the latest version of Netscape for
free.
2.) You can get Netscape installers directly from the University of Oregon
fileservers. If you enter the following Web addresses in your Browser's
location field you will download the installer programs for these versions
of Netscape:
Netscape Version 3.04 Standalone for Windows 95
---------------------------------------------
ftp://ftp.uoregon.edu/public/Network%20Software/Netscape/3.04/Standard/
and then click on the filename "n32e304.exe" - This should download that
file to your hard drive. You can simply run this file to start the
Netscape 3.04 installer.
Netscape Version 4.06 Standalone for Windows 95
---------------------------------------------
ftp://ftp.uoregon.edu/public/Network%20Software/Netscape/4.0.6%20%28Browser%20on
ly%29/
and then click on the filename "n32e406.exe" - This should download that
file to your hard drive. You can simply run this file to start the
Netscape 4.06 installer.
We only recommend version 4 of Netscape to users with at least 16MB of RAM.
Version 4.x of Netscape prefers 24-32MB of RAM.
Note: Since you are in Spencer View, if your networking is setup correctly,
you can simply Double Click on your Network Neighborhood icon and do the
following:
* Double click on Entire Network
* Double click on the icon named, "Public"
* When asked for a username and password choose to login as "Guest" instead.
* Open the following folders, which you will now see, in order:
- Software
- Network Software
- Netscape
* Now right click on the folder that contains the version of Netscape you
want and choose to "Map Network Drive..." - Click "OK" to the popup menu
that appears. Now you should see the Netscape installer file(s). Simply
double-click on the file to install Netscape directly over the network.
Finally, the 1998 Duckware CD-ROM, which contains both Netscape 3.04 and
4.06, will be available approximately one week before school starts. We
will be giving these out in Room 202 of the Computing Center, at the
Computing Center Help Desk and at various dorm desks. There should be a
few at the Spencer View main desk as well.
I hope this helps!
Sincerely,
