Hello SGHers,

Hope summer has been awesome, filled with lots of sun and lots of sleep. With school just around the corner, I wanted to check in about the upcoming week.

On Friday, September 23rd, we will tabling at Intermingle. Intermingle is a day to recruit new members and raise awareness about Students for Global Health. We will have Global Health Jeopardy board game as well as prizes. We need people to table, so please, if you have an hour to spare on Friday 9/23, anytime from 5pm-11pm, respond to this email!

The Fall Conference is coming up! We will definitely talk about it in detail at our first meeting, but I just wanted to send out a reminder to start thinking about attending. The conference will be held at Stanford University, October 13-16th. There is a fee, but SGH is currently looking into financial aids.

Here is a link to the Face AIDS information page:

On another note, we are currently looking for two board positions to be filled. The Director of Campus Outreach and Finance and the Director of Events positions both need to be filled. If you are interested, please respond to this email. You can definitely share a position with another SGHer to lighten the load.

Here are position descriptions:

Director of Campus Outreach & Finance

  • Clearly, weeks in which there is a tabling event or another special event more time is required (i.e ~7 hrs).
Position Responsibilities include:
  • Coordinates all campus tabling, including bake sales, street fairs and other misc. events.  This includes organizing where and when to table, scheduling club members to table and setting up and taking down the table.
  • Works to recruit new members.  This includes tabling at events like week of welcome and student group fairs in the EMU.  Adds new members to the list serve.
  • Stores all SGH materials (tabling supplies, pins, money box, etc.)
  • Collects and counts all money raised at fundraising and tabling events.
  • In charge of all financial transactions, including depositing money into ASUO Account and sending checks to selected NGO’s.
  • In charge of maintaining detailed records of all financial transactions.
  • Must be responsible with money, organized and flexible.
  • Helps other board members when needed.

Events Director:
(5-6 hours a week including meetings)

  • Plans and manages all outside SGH events (World Aids Day Concert, Haiti Remembrance, Agate Alley Drink Wheel, etc)
  • Works with the media director and education director closely to coordinate events
  • Manages LOTS of contacts and works with a wide range of people
  • Contacts with local bands/venues/professors are really helpful
  • Should be creative, outgoing, willing to help, enthusiastic, organized (especially time management) and able to juggle lots of things at once
  • This job is great for people who can handle moderate amounts of stress about events and creative deadlines
  • Helps other board members when needed!
Sorry for the length of this email, but there is a lot to get through! The time and locations of our meetings are still TBD, but they will probably be on Wednesdays around 7 in Gerlinger.

Once again, if you are at all interested in helping out at Intermingle, the Back to School Campaign, or running for a board position, respond to this email or give me a call.

Thanks!
