Final Term Meeting! Important Info!

Hi Everybody,

I hope you are surviving Dead Week and will come to our final meeting of the term this Thursday March 11 @ 7pm, Gerlinger 248! 

On the Agenda:

1. BRING $31 CASH OR CHECK for SWEATSHIRTS! We will order our sweatshirts this weekend so they are ready for the start of next term. Sweatshirts will be American Apparel and have our name and logo on the back. I really hope you will all get one. It is a good way for us to promote our group, and it's nice to have identifiable garb for events!

2. We are going to have sign-ups for the 8th Annual Western Regional International Health Conference this April 23-25 at the University of Washington! We will road trip up to Seattle for the event and stay one or two nights. I'm excited! If you have connections up in Seattle, call them up! There's more conference info below.

3. Updates on Haiti benefits & our Agate Alley benefit for Village Health Works' malnutrition ward!

4. Meetings next term will be held on Wednesdays! Times to be discussed this Thursday.

Along with keynote speaker, Journalist Chris Hedges, the conference highlights include:

• Major plenary session on the health consequences of war, featuring Barry Levy and Victor Sidel, authors of the definitive text, War and Public Health. Both are past presidents of the American Public Health Association.
• Major plenary session on the role of health professionals in preventing war, featuring Neil Arya, author of Peace Through Health and past president of Physicians for Global Survival; Dr. Raana Zahid, of Pakistan, a lifelong advocate of human rights for women; and Paula Gutlove, founder of the Health Bridges for Peace project, which links health care with the prevention and resolution of inter-communal conflict in war-torn areas.
• Special lecture on torture by Alfred W. McCoy, a professor at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and author of A Question of Torture: CIA Interrogation, From the Cold War to the War on Terror, 2006.
• Speaker Norm Stamper, PhD, former Seattle Police Chief speaking on conflict related to the drug trade.
• Screening of the film, “Pray the Devil Back to Hell,” about the women’s peace movement in Liberia, featuring journalist Janet Johnson Bryant, a radio reporter in the film, who will answer questions.
• Receptions hosted by Health Alliance International and the Global Health Council.
