I have started researching the MirrorLink area as I am experiencing issues with establishing a connection between my infotainment system (Toyota touch 2) that run with MirrorLink version 1.0 and my server (Samsung Galaxy S7) that works with version 1.1. when the two unites are connected the MirrorLink connection is detected by the server but nothing is displayed on the infotainment system.

Looking for the MirrorLink specification: ETSI has adopted and published MirrorLink 1.3 version. Look for ETSI TS 103 544 specification. It comes in 29 parts. MirrorLink 1.3 is an extension of MirrorLink 1.0/1.1/1.2. You will find references in the specification, on how the other versions work. Older versions are not publicly available.

Regarding registration on Car Connectivity Consortium website: You can always register as a developer. This is for free. It gives you information on how to develop on Android. You can also download the free MirrorLink Client head-unit emulator. It runs on Linux.

1.) As i know, the Mirrorlink Server is provided by the Operating System, and i read in several forums topics from "ROM"-Modifiers, that they tried Mirrorlink 1.1 prevent to start running everytime you connect your Samsung Device to the USB cable. According to some slides I found by the Car Connectivity Consortium the server (the phone) has implemented the "MirrorLink Common API" in his body.

The next question would be, can you emulate a Mirrorlink 1.0 phone with the "Mirrorlink Common API"? I only found s.th. about a Fake Common API, that is not making the phone to be a mirror link server (and only works on phones without mirrorlink):

Toyota explains it, that they do not Support 3rd Party Application, what Mirrorlink 1.1 is providing additionally. As i know, the Toyota Touch 2 with Go supports some Internet Functionalities with an own app store. I guess Toyota don't want you to use third Party applications and buy the Navigation System instead.

3.) My dream is to implement a Raspberry Pi Project - i want raspberry to provide a mirrorlink 1.0 server and connect to the head Unit. But i did not find any specifications of the Mirrorlink protocol on the web. On the Website of the car connectivity consortium there is a "Forum" area, but if you want to join it, you have to Register with a Company email adress of one of the implementing manufactures (i.e. Toyota, Volkswagen, Samsung....) and i am not working for those companies.

When I connect the USB cable it automatically connects (enable Mirrorlink support on the mobile) to Touch 2. Press Phone&Online button (right middle) on the Touch 2 and you should get displayed additional Car Mode option. Click on it and if you have parking brake ON you will get Car mode app showing. Note this is not full mobile screen miroring but showing the Car mode app only. Inside the app you can select Sygic car navigation. When the sygic is running and you release the parking break, the navigation window stays visible on the screen. Licensing is not cheap however the proof of concept is working. The Toyota navigation costs hundreds of euros, Sygic is far less.

Samsung MirrorLink is an app for connecting your Android smartphone screen to your car's display. To do so, all you have to do is connect your smartphone to the car's screen using the USB port. After that, you can activate the 'mirrorlink' option from the app's interface.

It's important to keep in mind that in order to use Samsung MirrorLink, you need a car with a screen that's compatible with the app, as well as a cable for connecting the two devices. If not, this app won't work for you.

Uptodown is a multi-platform app store specialized in Android. Our goal is to provide free and open access to a large catalog of apps without restrictions, while providing a legal distribution platform accessible from any browser, and also through its official native app.

I made some tries on my RX with mirrorlink trough audio/video input, and it works, BUT the problem is that for security reasons you can mirror your cell phone on screen only when car is not moving, inserting "D" screen get dark and you have only sound. Using Iphone is even worse, as mirroring for apple devices is only video and not audio.

I have a Z3 Compact since october and I desperatly tried to connect the Mirrorlink function to my new car, a CRV 2015 (Honda), expected for Mirrorlink but without any success. So, someone who I know tried the connect his Z3 Compact equipped with kitkat (4.4.4) and the mirrorlink worked very well. So, we can see that the same problem between kitkat and lollipop and z3 occurs for several car infotainment systems, meaning that the phone is clearly the root cause of the problem.

It is time for Sony to have a particular look on this issue because the advertising regarding this issue is very bad at the moment for the brand. Ideed, all new cars are now equipped with this technology.

Google maps AFAIK isn't compatible with Mirror Link. Glympse is compatible but only the most expensive version (the one that literally states in the Google Play description that it's compatible with Mirrorlink). Glympse should be compatible but I'm not 100% sure. Can you try Rockscout + Vanilla Music? It's a decent barebones music player which works with Mirrorlink.

I'm using the latest official firmware on my phone and I think the head unit firmware is also the latest (but weirdly enough it gives me issues with Bluetooth caller names and sometimes multimedia audio, not sure if it's the car or the phone to be honest, I blame the car).

Most newer vehicles are coming from the factory with mirrorlink, support for mirrorlink would alow me to use waze with my factory touch screen. Much like the pioneer support. Having this as I'm sure for others would allow us to use waze all the time!

I requested this feature, because my 2019 Toyota supports Android car but not for sharing the onboard display. This can only be done with mirrorlink. So navigation only on the mobiles display. Useless

Hi, I will like to request for waze app update on : An automatic map zoom when the car has reached the roundabout; faster map synchronizing when turning; lane guidance for multiple lanes roundabouts; lane guidance for difficult junctions that pops up as a real image, when approaching difficult junctions.
Thanks.

I understand that your application supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto. However, there is still a large number of cars (take Toyota Camry EU 2018-2020) that have no official service option to be upgraded to one of the new standards. The owners of such cars are left with MirrorLink connectivity which is getting more and more obsolete.

There are a lot of request and a lot of votes for the support of MirrorLink, of course Android Auto and Apple Car Play gives support for a lot a mobiles, but the limitations for MirrorLink is on a lot of cars. Thanks

While my VW Passat has support for Android Auto, it works so unreliably that it is practically unusable. The phone constantly disconnects from the car, and no amount of trying different USB cables, different versions of Android Auto app or fiddling with various settings on the phone and car has helped. Maybe MirrorLink would work better.

Well, I know that Waze works great with Android Auto or Apple Car Play, but still now, too many car audio systems and too many car producer, still use Mirrorlink, due to a simple thing: If i gave you Android or IOS support, i can't sell you built in slow and ugly navigation system at 1000$ as optional in your car.

I'm not a programmer and i don't know how exactly do it.. But Mirrorlink certifications and Api's are totally FREE like CCC certification, i've readed guides about it, and i don't think il could be so complicated for you to add mirrorlink support in your product!

I was thinking about getting that sat nav add on, but as soon as we get the softwware fro mirror link iPhone, we might as well use a sat nav app, and you never no the passenger app function might support that! (Stll waiting for my lead)

Hello, I am thinking of buying the Sony XAV601BT to pair up with my iPhone. As there are always pairing issues with 3rd party products I cynically googled it and found this thread. I don't suppose you managed to get Mirrorlink working? Did your lead ever arrive? If so, is it any good?

Mirror link only works and designed for non Iphone smart phones. It won't work with Iphone. the one you will need is called App Mode. Ipod and iphone support will only means you will have iphone or ipod control. It works on most new headunits now. however, you won't be able to have your iphone screen on the head unit. you will only have ipod and iphone control on. cheers

Hi mate,I'm thinking of buying this device with my ipnone 4s,but saw this thread, just wondering what does 'only have ipod and iphone control on' mean? does this mean it still can be used with iphone? cheers

Hi, it means iphone and ipod control. So mainly about muisc and video. Ipod and ipod app in your iphone. So you can choose album, playlist, volume, up, down, fast forward etc. But you won't have the control of other apps and other interface. So made for iphone and ipod mainly means music. Mirror link is for mirroring the whole screen of phone to stereo even like facebook app, gps etc. cheers
