For many simple equations, which are fit to data sets with a sufficiently large number of data points, the Dynamic Curve Fitter finds the same result as the Regression Wizard. But the problem is that the user simply does not know whether the solution found by the Regression Wizard is the best possible or not. So there is always a concern that the correct solution has not been found. Dynamic fitting minimizes this concern. Its use is encouraged prior to publishing results particularly if a complicated equation is used.

Worksheet data for a heat map is arranged in a number of columns. One column is for column labels and another column is for row labels. These labels appear on the axes for the heat map. You are allowed to create a heat map without providing labels.

The data to be selected for the heat map must be entered in adjoining columns. The number of rows of data can vary among the columns. When the heat map is created, the number of rows in the heat map equals the maximum number of rows in the selected data. Non-numeric data is allowed in the data table, but will be treated as missing values. The color assigned to a missing value is transparent.

The color bar also contains three columns of graph data. A vertical (horizontal) color bar is created as a horizontal (vertical) bar chart. If using a continuous color scale, the first column consists of 101 numeric values that uniformly span the range of the heat map data. The second column consists of 101 values, all equal to 1, for setting the size of the bars. The last column applies the color scale to the first column of data values to generate 101 colors for the color bar. If using a discrete color scale, then the same types of columns are created, but each column has the same number of rows as the color column selected in the dialog.

SigmaPlot is a vendor software product used in conjunction with the supercritical fluid extraction Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (SFE-FTIR) system. This product converts the raw spectral data to useful area numbers. SigmaPlot will be used in conjunction with procedure ZA-565-301, ''Determination of Moisture by Supercritical Fluid Extraction and Infrared Detection.'' This test plan will be performed in conjunction with or prior to HNF-6936, ''HA-53 Supercritical Fluid Extraction System Acceptance Test Plan'', to perform analyses for water. The test will ensure that the software can be installed properly and will manipulate the analytical data correctly.

sigmaplot lets you plot the singular values (SV) of frequency response of a dynamic system model with a broader range of plot customization options than sigma. You can use sigmaplot to obtain the plot handle and use it to customize the plot, such as modify the axes labels, limits and units. You can also use sigmaplot to draw an SV plot on an existing set of axes represented by an axes handle. To customize an existing SV plot using the plot handle:

h = sigmaplot(sys) plots the singular values (SV) of the frequency response of the dynamic system model sys and returns the plot handle h to the plot. You can use this handle h to customize the plot with the getoptions and setoptions commands.

h = sigmaplot(sys1,LineSpec1,...,sysN,LineSpecN) sets the line style, marker type, and color for the SV plot of each system. All systems must have the same number of inputs and outputs to use this syntax.

h = sigmaplot(___,plotoptions) plots the singular values with the options set specified in plotoptions. You can use these options to customize the SV plot appearance using the command line. Settings you specify in plotoptions overrides the preference settings in the MATLAB session in which you run sigmaplot. Therefore, this syntax is useful when you want to write a script to generate multiple plots that look the same regardless of the local preferences.

Sigma plot options set, specified as a SigmaPlotOptions object. You can use this option set to customize the SV plot appearance. Use sigmaoptions to create the option set. Settings you specify in plotoptions overrides the preference settings in the MATLAB session in which you run sigmaplot. Therefore, plotoptions is useful when you want to write a script to generate multiple plots that look the same regardless of the local preferences.

I've recently swapped from windows to mac and am looking for scientific graphics/statistics software with similar functionality to sigmaplot and sigmastat which I used on windows. I can get bohemuth SPSS from my uni, cheaply, but I'm not sure I want to learn how to use it.
Would appreciate any recommendations.

There is also Igor from It produces very nice graphs. It's completely useable via a GUI (but also via code). It's statistics functionality might be a bit limited (I have never used it for heavy stuff). It's famous for handling large sets of data (100 000+ entries). Creating graphs is fairly simple (once you get it how to import data into waves, add them to tables to view them) but I find it pretty clunky for handling a large number of datasets and graphs (Expose helps).

Some confusion for the user can arise if regional settings areduplicated for time, date or decimal separator. If, for example, the date format forEnglish (British) is set to d.m.yy and the decimal separator is the default point (.),12.12 will be recognized by SigmaPlot as a number but 12.12.95 will be recognized as adate. For the most trouble-free operation, these settings should have distinct separators.

If you want to change from one format to the other:

  • Windows 95: go to Start - Settings - Control Panel - Regional Settings - Numbers, and change decimal character and list separator.
  • Windows 3.x: go into the Windows Control Panel under International, and change the list separator, select number format and change the decimal character.
SigmaPlot version 5 tracks delimiter settings for transforms, sothat they are portable across language settings. If you are using transforms created withan earlier version, please exchange these characters with an editor that can write plainASCII text.

SigmaPlot is activated with a serial number that is authorized by a WebStore license server. The necessary activation information will be provided with your order receipt. Please note that you must be connected to the campus network in order to run this software. Use of one of the campus' VPN services is required for off-campus connections.

I just built a new computer and have been installing all my files and programs. I use a graphing program known as sigmaplot for academic research. The version I use is 12.5. The software is currently up to 14 something, but fairly costly to upgrade and 12.5 is fine for my needs. Traditionally, the company's webpage had links to download the 12.5 version - as well as a variety of other versions, but they are no longer available now apparently. I have the original disk, but it is version 12.0 which has a variety of bugs and issues before they fixed them in the updates. Unfortunately, there is apparently no access to the either updates or the updated version. I've emailed the company but have yet to hear back. Is there some unknown way in which I can transfer the program from my old computer to my new one?

The IT department also has 10 standalone licenses for SigmaPlot. Because of the limited number we only offer loans of license for up to a month at a time (maximum twice a year). Typical cases are portable computers used in areas where there is no internet connection or for other reasons can not access the UoB network.

Additional Plot Regression Statistics
More statistics have been added to the results in the Plot Regression dialog that is used for polynomial fitting to graph data. The statistics include the model performance measures R2, Adjusted R2, Standard Error of the Estimate and the Akaike Information Criterion. These are in addition to the standard errors for parameters and confidence intervals for the parameters. A control has also been added to change the number of results decimal places.

One-Way Frequency Tables Method
The one-way frequency tables method is new. It is applicable to multiple worksheet columns. It computes the number of times independent variable values occur.

SigmaPlot is one of the best-known data analysis packages. From a simple spreadsheet, it allows the creation of high-quality scientific graphs and the performance of complex data analyses. The trial version lasts 30 days and can be activated using serial number 775250001.

SoftChalk is a tool for creating learning objects. UTMB has a limited number of licenses for installation. SoftChalk marketing claims "if you can use word processing, you can use SoftChalk" and "If it's not easy, its not SoftChalk."
