Theirorigin is unclear. Two motherships, Zeta and an unnamed craft, are known to be in orbit as of 2277. The Zetans have been engaging with humankind as early as the 1600s, attracting nearly zero attention for most of human history. Until the 1960s, only by "crackpot" groups such as Quaere Verum, believed in the existence of aliens and that they were being covered up by a government conspiracy.

But after the abduction of the USSA space capsule Clarabella 7 and the pilot astronaut Colonel Hartigan during the 1960s Space Race, the existence of aliens became nationally recognized.[Non-game 1] It is said that alien technology was the basis of many of the Enclave's more exotic and impressive weaponry and robotics.[Non-game 1] Even toy manufacturers such as Wilson Atomatoys were not immune to these accusations[Non-game 1] and the United States government, which was said to keep its alien specimens and technology mostly in Area 51 (like a flying saucer that was after re-captured by aliens but crashed in California probably during the flight sometime after the Great War, instantly killing the two alien pilots).

The Brotherhood of Steel[1] around 2161 and the Shi[2] around 2241 encountered the bodies of aliens or their spaceships. By extension, the Capital Wasteland Brotherhood of Steel have a moderate amount of alien power cells kept in the Citadel's hidden armory[3] and the Brotherhood Outcasts also have some alien power cells at Fort Independence. Also, before 2277, an alien body was discovered in Fort Bannister,[Non-game 1] probably by the Enclave, carrying what may have been recovered (like an alien blaster and some alien power cells) in the armory of the mobile base crawler at Adams Air Force Base.

Some of the advanced human technologies were created by using the alien technology like the AI project number 59234, also known as Skynet, which was created in the 2050s and manages the entire Sierra Army Depot,[4] and (allegedly) the device blocking telepathic and psychic commands, the psychic nullifier.[Non-game 2]

These aliens appear only in the Fallout special encounter "Alien Ship" and are distinguished by their small skeletons in proportion to their overly large skulls. The Vault Dweller can come upon this unique occurrence in the wasteland of Southern California.

Aliens are relatively small, green-yellowish-skinned humanoid beings with no primary sex characteristics. Their bodies are elongated with a small chest, are lean, and lack any muscular definition. They also display no body hair of any kind. Their legs are shorter and jointed differently than a normal human and their limbs are also proportionally different than a normal humanoid; their humerus and femurs are the same lengths as their forearms and tibias.

Their heads are unusually large in proportion to their bodies and have no noticeable outer ears or noses, instead only having small orifices for ears and nostrils. They have very wide mouths, no teeth, a light green tongue, and large opaque black eyes with no discernible iris or pupil. Their hands have only three long suctioned-cupped fingers and no thumbs, however, their fingers are so long they can wrap around objects and use any objects like any other humanoid species. They seem to breathe a similar atmosphere that humans do and process nutrients through the body with green blood. They subsist on a diet of unknown worm and squid food.

An alien encased in a purple space helmet, which obscures its face save for its glowing white eyes. The rest of the body is sealed in a protective suit, with an armored breathing apparatus and a large spade-shaped frill on its back. Flatwoods monsters have no visible legs, the suit instead terminating to a bullet-shaped point at its bottom, with what appear to be small hover-jets around the waist, allowing the creatures to float above the ground. A Flatwoods monster's long arms are tipped with large, three-fingered hands clad in large black gloves.

The original Fo was not strongly designed to deal with aliens, obviously flying saucers and little green men with bulbous heads are part of the genre but there was enough going on without leaning into that, so it was just an additional "spice" to fit the motifs of the game.

I am level fifty in Fallout 3. I was walking around the outside of Megaton when I saw this weird glow stick looking green item on the ground. I immediately drop everything (nothing) that I was doing and pick it up. It turns out to be some of the alien ammo. However, there are no alien guns that I have found within the over 400 hours of total game play that I have. I keep looking for a gun with no results. Do I have to have the DLC to get any of this technology, or are they just really rare drops?

The alien blaster can be obtained next to the body of a dead alien lying a few feet away from his crashed spaceship. The Alien crash site is found due north of MDPL-13 Power Station and northwest of the Greener Pastures Disposal Site. There are also 120 alien power cells found at the crash site.

Additionally, if you have the Broken Steel add-on, you can find an additional blaster within Adams Air Force Base. Held in the armory on the Mobile Base Crawler, with plenty of ammunition. Sometimes an enclave solider is carrying an alien blaster. So it's possible to obtain 2 alien blasters from the base.

The Alien Blaster can either be found at the Alien crash site(although if you have the Mothership Zeta add-on, it will start as soon as you get there, and you'll have to complete it all before you can get the blaster) or in the Mobile Base Crawler's armory if you have the Broken Steel add-on. Also, sometimes an Enclave soldier in the base will be carrying one.

We've known that aliens exist in the Fallout universe for a long time now, with crashed spaceships and alien corpses appearing in several games in the series. Heck, you can get beamed up to a mothership in an expansion for Fallout 3, and there's an alien invasion event in Fallout 76.

And it was kinda awesome to see! I was so transfixed by the sight of a flying saucer I just sort of stood there as it began strafing me with energy weapons. I couldn't just gawk, though, because an alien soldier also opened fire on me from the ground. When I'd finally killed them both (the saucer took a long time because I didn't have any heavy weapons on me) I got a couple rewards. First, the saucer hit the ground and detonated in a brilliant explosion, and second, the alien grunt I killed had a Zetan pulse rifle on him. Perfect. I'll use their advanced technology against them.

It's not just flying saucers and simple soldiers you'll have to contend with: the Zetan's ground forces have different weapons and capabilities. There are basic Zetan grunts with blaster pistols and light armor, commandos with advanced rifles and cloaking tech, and even rocket troopers who fly around in jet packs and dual-wield pistols. An hour later I even encountered a Zetan overlord, who looked like a space wizard in a long cloak, used telekinetic attacks, and was flanked by two hovering combat drones.

The UFOs come in different flavors, too. There's the standard issue flying saucer and a more durable, heavily armored transport UFO that can beam down squads of alien soldiers for a ground assault. Even after playing a few hours with the mod installed I haven't come across all the different flavors of Zetan yet. I know there are more out there, I just need to spend more time hunting for them. And I'm happy to do it, they're fun to fight and a nice change from the vanilla mutants and monsters you encounter in the world.

The Zetans aren't alone. They've brought some cannon fodder with them, frog-like aliens called froggos who have been forced into the Zetans' service. You may have to contend with mobs of froggos while you're out in the world, and some even stomp around in armored mechs with acid-spewing cannons. On the plus side, you can also liberate one of these cute little guys. A froggo named Frogbert is in the Speakeasy basement in Concord, and you can add him as a follower. Don't forget to pick up his stuff from the nearby duffel bag: It contains some hats, armor, and other items you can equip on him. He's adorable.

And don't worry, the aliens aren't just there to kill you. I came across some fighting a pack of raiders, and in one particularly memorable close encounter, two saucers opened fire on some ghouls who were already battling a swarm of bloodbugs in a swamp. That gave me a chance to crouch down and admire the UFOs as they circled around and blasted everyone to pieces. Unfortunately, then they blasted me to pieces.

If you want to bring an alien invasion to the Commonwealth, and I definitely recommend it, you'll find the mod here at Nexus Mods. The Zetans mod doesn't need any other mods to get it running, which is great, though it does require Fallout 4's Automatron add-on which is conveniently 60% off on Steam until October 18. Not a bad time to grab it if you haven't.
