Note that 64 bit Firefox versions on a 64 bit Windows platform will only support the Shockwave Flash plugin. If you need support for other plugins (Java or media players) then you need to stay with 32 bit Firefox versions.
It does not make any difference at the moment. Not a huge difference anyway. One difference to note though is if you use Firefox in a very heavy way with 100s of tabs and you notice high memory issues. The 64 bit version is able to use more memory (over 4GB) past the 32 bit limitation of 4GB. But if your Firefox is using 4GB of memory, you're already in big trouble. :P
If you don't use Firefox in that way, you won't notice much difference. Also 64 bit plugins for Java, Silverlight and a few others won't work because they're being blocked for security & stability reasons. And other plugins like VLC media player won't work with 64-bit Firefox because they haven't been whitelisted. So something to think about before switching. You can try out the 64-bit version here: -US/firefox/beta/all/
You can uninstall the 64 bit version and install the 32 bit version. If you possibly want to keep both then you can consider to do a custom install of the 32 bit version in the correct Firefox program folder for the 32 bit version and create a separate profile for the 32 bit version.
Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you uninstall and reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
Description
I have implemented a web sdk app.
When I join a meeting with firefox and try to chat, I could write a message, but the message is not sent.
This error only happens only in my local dev environment where only http is used.
I know this issue came up quite a few times but i can't manage to get proper help on this.I'm using Firefox (latest) and i'm getting pretty serious crashes ONLY when navigating .just writing this is a pain since i've crashed twice till here.
so i have a Phenom X4 920 black edition, M4N72-E with latest bios update. and i don't know why, but ONLYwhen firefox is opened it freezes and i have to reset everything..so i've heard java is responsible, other are saying Net framework, others are saying firefox...so before going back to a 32bit version where i can't use all my RAM but where i don't actually punch my screen, i come here to you to get help..
hello, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.
okay so i did and it said that no reports have been sent..(kind of logic since my comp just freezes and stays there till i manually reboot)then windows says " hey i 'll try and look for a solution" but never does. maybe helpful to know some of my windows update are failing to install themselves..and two of them are net framework related.
maybe the bios update made some changes in the way the motherboard uses my processor and my alimentation doesn't fit anymore...could be ? or not...well i don't know...at some point i'll just go back to 32 bit or try and getting friendly with chrome hahahaha
i have no specific recommendation on a particular graphics driver version to use and the hint at the plugins was just a shoot in the dark. but generally you'll be on the safe side when you keep plugins that you're not actively using disabled.
if you suspect it might be related to your graphics driver, you could disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general (it's also disabled during firefox safe mode - that's why i've recommended running it for testing purposes originally too).
finally with no clear cause of the crash to start off with, you may also try running a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes, adwcleaner and microsoft safety scanner, just to be sure...
-on the other hand, i still didn't get a crash since i started safe mod(that's why i suspect driver...but NEVER HAD trouble in 32bit).my installation of win7 64bit is brand new ( that's why i was talking of going back to 32bit) but i'll run malwarebytes, etc.. just to be sure.
( now that you mention it, before reinstalling and formating, i first installed once w7 64bit and got the "BOXORE" thingy from softonic, but since i formated and reinstalled ( and checked with AVG ) i didn't think of it but MAYBE it "followed"..who knows if it's even possible. )
AND just maybe useful : the whole thing started with the "loss" of my integrated network card, i first reinstalled, then with no success i went and bought a true network card and when i pluged it in the tower, by magic the intergrated one came back...and of course now, because i checked every possible cause i have new bios version, new drivers for everything, and win7 64 bit...
Should work freaking great now and it DOES but now...i have this problem with firefox, and i really don't wanna use chrome or explorer coz i just don't trust them and they're kind of left behind with firefox.
maybe some kind of conflict between a 64bit system(drivers included) andthe fact that no 64bit version of firefox is out because of "more important projects"..i'm starting to think that this was the issue :
The strange thing is that if ui vision opens 3-4 tabs it will continue to do so until we delete the cookies and cache and we close firefox and it reopens. The problem is random, it occurs suddenly and not always.
I tested and can not recreate it => The challenge here is one again to recreate the issue so we can debug it. If you want, I can give you remote access to a Windows or Ubuntu test machine, so you can try to recreate the error there.
If you can configure a machine with internet connection, with windows 7 where I can install firefox portable (some versions) and ui vision (some versions) and xmodules (some versions) I can test to recreate this event.
This time I used firefox new installation, without any addons installed and latest ui vision addon, there are nothing to do ui vision is incompatible with firefox in all version I search a solution from 1 year and this bug is present in all ui vision version for firefox from 1 year.
Hi, under chrome I was able to install and use the add-on without any problems.
In Firefox, however, the add-on is not recognized after the plug-in has been installed.
If I click on the plugins icon, I land here: Passbolt How would you like to use passbolt?
Could you provide us with the output of the browser extension console?
New tab > go to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox > look for passbolt card > Click inspect > copy errors under console tab
I'm running 64 bit with KDEmod. Scrolling is fine when I remove flash completely but on Ubuntu 10.04 (64 bit) the abnove sites scroll fine on a different machine (with intel graphics). I read somewhere by modifying xorg with "AccelMethod" "EXA" to "XXA" scrolling becomes very smoth onm ATI and Intel. Here is my xorg.conf:
is there something I can change to improve scrolling in firefox? I've tried to turnoff desktop effects and scrolling is the same annd also running firefox from a fresh profile. Hence, i suspect my nvidia 9800GT card to be the culprit. If anyone has a working xorg.conf with nvidia, 64 bit and smooth scrolling on the above mentioned sites please SHARE! Many Thanks!
Using the binary nvidia blob driver. Removing the option did not do much to scrolling. I have turned smooth scrolling on. Turning it off improves scrolling a little but not by much. It is still very very slow. If anybody has a good working xorg.conf with nvidia please post or any other suggestions please post.
The ideas I'm posting here are just wild guesses but it's relatively easy to try them all out before performing some mayor surgery.
You can try a different driver but of course it can fix one thing - scrolling - and scr*w another.
> Tried it now and that worked. Running without a xorg.conf buty now I can't turn on desktop effects in KDE. How do I set that up?
Sorry, I don't use KDE, but it may be related to how do you start KDE: from xinit or via KDM or sth.
(/03/12/22 - EDIT:- Given that modern, Woof-built Puppies are now beginning to come with PulseAudio built-in as standard, the portables have been re-jigged. Upon startup, the 'LAUNCH' script now checks to see if PulseAudio is present on the system; if it is, one set of libs are used.....if not, a different set of libs are employed. It's all automatic, so the user shouldn't need to concern themselves as to what audio system they're running.)
Fred's original simply placed a short script, called 'ff', inside the firefox directory. That script made use of the Firefox ability to specify the location of its profile directory, so Fred used this to create the Firefox profile inside the 'firefox' directory. This kept everything together in one place, and allowed the entire browser directory to be moved from one location to another.....hence, it became 'portable', no longer being tethered to a fixed, 'standard' location.
I was very taken by this whole idea. It was a concept I'd encountered years before in Windows XP, and one which I'd always wanted to get working in Puppy. That original release of Fred's 'showed the way', as it were, and set me on a path which still has no end in sight.....
My use of the 'LAUNCH' script first came about through helping a sweet old guy over at BleepingComputer, who'd made the switch to Puppy and wanted to have a 'shared' browser he could use with more than one Puppy/machine. So I used the then current Firefox ESR, basically using Fred's layout, but with the clearly labelled 'LAUNCH' script at the top 'level', pointing to the 'ff' script inside. (He admitted he wasn't very good with Linux, and he was so nice - and very polite with it - that I did what I could to make it easier for him). Hence the 'LAUNCH' script.....and by placing the entire thing on a suitably-formatted flash drive, it was totally portable, and he could plug it in & use it anywhere he wanted.
