Have a poweredge R640 that has been running for 6-7 months without issue. After this past weekend, I came into the office and saw that most of our VMs were unresponsive and attempted to log into iDrac (no success). I restarted the server and iDrac came back up, but showed memory errors in B1 slot. Logs show that the memory was self-healed, but after not being able to boot (stuck at "initializing firmware interfaces") I decided to try a minimal post. There are no pcie cards installed, but removed all hardware except for cpu 1 and memory. Booted a bit further to "enumerating boot options". I've been able to apply the bios update from 2.10.0 > 2.10.2 and 2.10.2 > 2.11.2. That said iDrac doesn't recognize the change, only the dell splash screen shows the bios correctly.
Thanks for you response. There is no issue to use F12 to access in the one time boot menu or F2 to access in BIOS. The issue is the USB device is not visible to select in the one time boot menu or in the BIOS.
I doubt that there is a Linux Distro that will run on it without much work, So far have not found a way of reloading Windows from a USB stick unless the BIOS has the key for that to happen. Dell only mention their Recovery Assist programme.
Maybe eventually someone will update the Linux kernel to run that CPU. The next problem will then be to modify the BIOS so that it will boot. Unfortunately, you will have to use the Windows OS it came with. You are not alone is wanting that Dell laptop to run Linux.
If I check this on the below link at the bottom of this document it shows it is compatible with linux. The reasons I bought this laptop light weight, slim and provide more than 10 hours battery backup which is very convenient to use. It is very strange it does not have any option to boot from USB to load Windows operating system.
There appears to be confusion about the laptops. There are two of them that appear to have the same name and number! If I look at -products/esuprt_laptop/esuprt_inspiron_laptop/inspiron-14-3420_reference%20guide_en-us.pdf then I see it has an Intel CPU which will run Linux and hence you get the statement you refered to. If you look at -uk/000211095/dell-inspiron-14-3420-usage-and-troubleshooting-guide then we see a SnapDragon CPU which will not.
I created the bootable USB using rufus with UEFI mode. I tried both disable and enable the secure boot but no luck. I am not sure whether I can install Linux on it. This laptop does not detect any kind of USB in boot menu to boot from USB storage or USB DVD ROM. I am thinking in future if the disk crash and if I need to replace the disk how can I install Windows on it.

I'd like to ask that which boot option should be used for Windows 10 on Dell laptops, either UEFI or Legacy? And is it essential to enable Secure Boot option? We've a Dell Inspiron 5559 for home, got an SSD on it, when restarted; it's saying "Hard drive not installed", i've looked up for this and saw a bunch of tutorials for it... but not sure to use which one of them... This is a second hand product, the guy I bought it from was a computer engineer and did upgrade the SSD. I wonder if he changed some options in BIOS, not sure though. Could you please elaborate on boot options?
@metehan.altay ejn63 is correct. If your system isn't detecting your hard drive, then changing between BIOS/Legacy and UEFI is not going to help. And the only reason you should disable Secure Boot is if you need to run an OS that doesn't support it, but Windows has supported it since Windows 8. Otherwise, it's a useful anti-rootkit measure, so you should keep it enabled, which requires you to keep UEFI mode enabled. But that's a good thing too since there's no reason you should have to switch to Legacy/BIOS mode here.
I agree it would be helpful to provide a bit more background here. Did this system EVER work this new SSD in it, or did this guy you bought it from install a replacement SSD, not bother to test that it worked, and sell it to you in that state? If that latter, he may well have installed an incompatible SSD (to say nothing of being an irresponsible seller). In that case, I would go into your BIOS Setup by pressing F2 during startup and looking for a system information/summary section. Does the system give any indication that it detects an installed drive at all?
If this system with its current SSD worked previously and has suddenly stopped working, I would run diagnostics by pressing F12 during startup and selecting that option.
Default as shipped from Dell is UEFI mode, secure boot on. That's also the mode that offers the best security for the system. And most often, Dell ships the system with the drive controller in RAID mode.
