I originally ran boot-repair because I could not get into Ubuntu, after installing windows because it would just go straight into Win7 without giving me the option of choosing Ubuntu. I had the same issue not being able to get into windows but I booted a flashUSB and auto-updated from there. That seemed to fix the boot menu issues. The code below is from the journalctl -xb (All RED errors).
Using ophcrack live cd. You download it, burn it and boot your pc with it. After while (sometimes long) it will return a list of users and their passwords. On windows7 it doesn't always crack all the passwords.
Will not solve grub with windows however I use dual boot also, I have two EFI one for win one for Arch, when I want to switch to windows (rarely) I use bios option to temporary boot from... Lenovo laptop uses F12 for it.
I reinstalled my arch because nothing important on it. I made a mistake when mounting the arch esp, so I got 2 boot config, the windows part was ignored by grub-mkconfig, you should check the mount points before installing grub to your hard drive and mkconfig.
I have a Dell Notebook with Windows 10 installed. I installed debian about 4 months ago making it a dual boot option. Have been using debian daily, everyday it shows me the GRUB and auto loads into debian. Yesterday decided to go into windows, just selected windows in GRUB, now I can't go back into debian.
@Henrycos Dual booting two Windows 11 instances on two separate SSDs is possible, but it can be quite complex. The easiest way to do this is to use a third-party software such as Acronis Disk Director or Paragon Hard Disk Manager. These programs will allow you to create a dual-boot configuration and manage the two separate instances of Windows 11. They will also allow you to install the Windows 11 Pro version on the second SSD and configure it with the appropriate drivers and settings.
If you don't have a third-party software to manage the dual-boot configuration, you can use UUBYTE ISO Editor to create a bootable USB drive with both Windows 11 Home and Pro versions. This program allows you to easily create a bootable USB drive with both versions of Windows 11. Once you have created the drive, you can then boot up your PC and select which version of Windows you want to run.
You should have an ISO image of window 10 or can download from -in/software-download/windows10 that contains all setup files. Secondly, you should have a CD/DVD or USB drive with at least 8 GB (for the 64-bit operating system). And make it bootable from an ISO image of window 10.
Hi there, it seems that I have the same issue, where I previously also had the buzzing sound issue solved here, but it suddenly appeared again. I used the dual boot, and I found this after booting to windows (but not sure if it is relevant). Also, I could not find /sys/module/snd_hda_intel, the only options related to snd_hda would be
I have a Gigabyte Aero 15x v8 and I would like to do something a little odd with it. It has two NVMe m.2 drive slots in the chassis and I would like to have windows 10 installed on each drive. That is not hard and I have run desktops in this fashion before. The catch is that when I am booted to one of the drives I would like the other drive to be encrypted and/or otherwise invisible to the currently booted OS. Any Ideas?
Many users are willing to move to Windows 7/8 from XP or Vista but want to keep their old system for many reasons. Dual-booting is a solution to have two or more OS installed side by side. A dual-boot system is also useful when testing software in different environments.
During execution of reagentc /enable also the files winre.wim+boot.sdi are moved from \windows\system32\recovery to \recovery\GUID folder (usually on drive c:). Reagentc /disable acts in opposite direction.
If you're one of the people who did try to use a dual-boot, you've probably found that the Windows startup repair tool isn't going to help you. There's always the super GRUB disc, but that's just more GNU/Linux! How can we get out of this?
To use Windows Login Recovery to reset password windows 7, a blank or erasable CD/DVD is required. Surely, you can also use a USB flash drive to crack Windows 7 password if your selected software supports it. With the USB, you could get Windows password recovery by following the steps below:
1. Download and install Windows Login Recovery in any available computer.
2. Run the application and insert a USB flash drive in computer.
3. Click Local Account and USB, and click Burn to burn a password reset USB drive.
4. Click Ok when the 7 password reset USB drive is created.

I found a way to avoid to prompt ssh passphrase after each boot. It is based on windows credential. Please give a look here: @glsorre/windows-subsystem-for-linux-never-prompt-your-ssh-passphrase-again-353db7c931ab
first of all, sorry for my bad English. i love elementary os that is base on ubuntu. i have a lenovo with win8 with uefi. y download the new elementary freya os thats it suppose to support uefi mode. i have make the followings steps: download rufus and create an usb for uefi with the freya os version on 64 bits. plug the usb on the pc and the usb didnt start so i change de bios settings to legacy mode and star again. that work for me and i manege to install elementary freya os on the pc without deleting the win 8 and the recovery options. but my problem is that wehen i restar the pc and go too the boot menu and select win8, windows do not start because the bios is set en legacy mode. so y change it to uefi mode, but when i do this it doesnt appear a boot menu option it continues directly to windows 8. my question is how can i fix this problem, how can i put uefi mode on and select the operating system that i whant to use. please helppp!
Hi, I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS and windows 8.1 on my dell laptop. I want to repair windows 8.1, I tried but failed to do that. Can anybody let me known how can I do that without loosing my data and affecting ubuntu?
I think that i have to repair efi partition in a way but when i run bootrec /RebuildBcd i get total windows installations identified 0,which maybe causes linux install program to not detect the win Os.All this make me think that a clean install of windows to remove every partition and OEM partition if possible is a solution.
I finally restored dual boot thanks to your instructions! I did the same till the point where you type the efi ubuntu boot in windows cmd.The only difference at what i did is at the boot repair point. From the live cd i typed the following commands
Ok you said you did all the suggested steps. Can you boot to Windows directly or from bios? Also write if possible the steps you did. Are you sure your boot is uefi and secure boot is disabled? Also check in your windows installation fastboot to be disabled
Hi, i am new to the Linux world and have been using numerous sites to install Ubuntu 14x alongside windows 8.1. it has taken 5 long long days to get the live usb working and Ubuntu installed, but now GRUB isnt working on my computer. i have tried at least 4 methods i found and i am about to try your suggestion. i am absolutely pooped, it would be great if you could explain what EFI is and what UEFI is also. (Sorry) I would really appreciate your help, thanks,
I will like to try Kali Linux, 64bit, which I have loaded onto a USB, and made it bootable. I have set the BIOS to boot from USB, however it does not come up as an option in ubuntu Grub. Only windows or uBuntu to select from.
Ever wish you could split your disk drive in two? Maybe you want to encrypt a portion of your drive for sensitive files, or perhaps you want to dual-boot Windows 11 alongside Windows 10. It's actually easy to do, and all the necessary tools are built right into Windows.
How to dual-boot Linux and Windows on the same hard disk? Typically a computer will have a single operating system installed on them, for those that want to dual-boot multiple OS such as a combination of Windows and Linux, you will need to make some changes and enable the option to choose which OS to boot from during startup.
read an article recently about a program which lets u run windows from a flash drive not sure what it was called but might worth looking into, if not you could always buy a usb/ssd to run windows from
Dual booting only works for me, when i am using separate HDs for each OS. I had trouble with aggressive Win10 updates messing with the Manjaro setup on the same hardrive. Simply took a spare 256gb Samsung SSD and smashed windows (ReviOS) on it. Just for games i can not get to run on linux or some odd school software the kids have to use, etc. When needed i switch to windows in the bios boot order.
Long story short I was having 2 issues: first one, whenever I chain loaded apple_set_os.efi first, Windows 10 would crash and reboot. After consulting with Mantiz John and Nando4, I think the cause of this for me was that I was enrolled and using a windows insiders preview version. After going with 1703 version of windows and opting out of windows insider previews, I was able to enable the Intel iGPU on Windows.
Boot with reFind selecting apple_set_os.efi(previously running the integrated.bat as mentioned on the guide), but I am diverting from the guide a bit by after apple_set_os.efi, chainloading Clover with the modified DSDT and then booting windows bootcamp with Clover.
One more thing..
I just noticed that it only charge my mac under MACOS with 60W.
Not sure how to check it under windows so can not verify if it is a MacOS thing.
though.. with the eGPU,
the load of dGPU will be very low,
so 60W? not too big a deal.
after several reboot and unplug for a while it get back to 100W charging under mac again
but still try to figure it out
