Sound the trumpets, we have a big announcement: Dan Storch has joined the BBO team as Chief Operating Officer. He was the Director of Marketing at the ACBL between 2017 and 2020. His wealth of marketing experience spans more than 20 years, working for household names such as Hewlett-Packard, Texas Instruments and Lexmark.
Welcome Mr Storch. I hope you bring also empathy with you. I play here for 16 years. I have multiple handicaps.
Also very bad sight. That was the reason I was granted by Uday to use the old Windows- version.
I am 79 and not alone with this BIG problems of the web-versions.
Many older, handicapt players are able to play at BBO ONLY with the windows-version.
My plea to you is :
PLEASE do not shut down the old windows-version. Let us play ( who ask for it ) in windows.
We are satisfied with the possibilities as they are now, new apps, or new stuff we dont need.
We are even prepared to pay for that service
I wish you a splendid carreer at BBO mister Storch

I usually play with a friend as a partner and we are in the same house sharing a high speed internet connection. We have our computers in separate rooms to avoid cheating, or any appearance of cheating. For some reason her laptop computer, running Windows 10 and V3 of BBO software frequently logs her off without warning, but mine running Windows 10 does not normally do that. We cannot determine if that is a problem with some setting in her computer or something at BBO. The internet connection does not seem to be the problem. Her screen saver and power settings are set to never shut down while plugged into AC power.
One big problem is discovering when you have been logged off, since if in the middle of playing a hand, the screen shows everything normal, but does not show any bids or cards played after being logged off. It just looks like the opponent or partner is slow acting. If something could be added to the screen to show all is OK (or not OK), that would be a big help. If the problem is some computer setting, perhaps someone could provide some guidance on proper settings?
We were entered in the Rainbow Team Game Oct 10, playing on different teams. There were many players having connection problems or something. My team won round 1 by default, as did her team, but we stared at a blank screen for almost two hours before finding this out. Then my team played round 2, but her team did not get a match for round 2, with no notification or anything. It is possible one of her team was offline when the match started since she was dropped offline for unknown reasons just as round 2 was starting, and logged on again within a minute. The problem of being dropped seems to be a big problem for many players.
Welcome. Sounds like BBO (where i been a member since Spring, 2007) continues to improve in all areas over the 13+ years i have been on site. Now, if BBO can just find a viable way to eliminate 99% of the cheaters (for life) what a joy it will be as we welcome in another quarter million players from all over the world. Good luck in all your efforts to continue the excellence of this site.
Congratulation, Dan! Best of luck in your new role. You are well placed to influence how the younger generations engage each other and the game of bridge like never before. BBO is very very lucky to have you.
Regards,
Congratulations, Dan! Was so fun to see the announcement message including the name of a friend. We have been enjoying a weekly afternoon of bridge for the past few months. BBO makes quarantine fun again.
Welcome! I, and many of us 'old timers', are hoping this means a re focus on the casual game and doing away w/ the 2 server system which effectively precludes us from finding, chatting or inviting each other to a game table. And we also hope for meaningful revisions of the design of the NEW BBO. It is very ill conceived as many members would be happy to tell you...if only we could get someone to Listen!!!
Bridge base basic, also known as BBO basic, is a bidding system for the game of bridge based on the Standard American Yellow Card (SAYC). It is simplified, suitable for beginners, and widely used in internet bridge, particularly on Bridge Base Online.[1] It is taught in Fred Gitelman's educational software called Learn to Play Bridge that is available as a free download from the American Contract Bridge League's website.[2]
Like SAYC, BBO basic depends upon hand evaluation using the high card point (HCP) method. Hand shape adjustments are made for long suits (1 point additional for every card longer than 4 in a suit), when bidding a new suit, and for short suits when showing support for partners bid (5 for a void, 3 for a singleton, and 1 for a doubleton).[2]Other similarities to SAYC include:
Your partnership should be in a game-level contract when responder adds a minimum of 12 points to partner's promise of at least 13. Unlike Standard American Yellow Card, where a strong jump shift is recommended,[3] responder shows a very strong hand in BBO Basic by using the "principle of slow arrival". This means keeping the bidding low and showing support for partners suit with two sequential bids:
Often, in response to a natural opening bid in the 13-21 point range, the responder will suggest a new suit at the one level. While this promises 6 points or more, information is needed to make the optimum contract.
Buskin Bridge #2 Demolition. Spanning the Buskin River, this bridge was originally constructed using steel I-beams, timber deck/guardrail and a lead-based paint coating. Prior to demolition work, STG performed remediation of lead-based paint, structural evaluation. STG mobilized equipment via barge to Kodiak and successfully executed demolition of the bridge structure in 10 segments using a specialty long reach luffing 600-ton Liebherrad without accessing the airport.
Existing Waterline Bridge Demolition. The final project phase was demolition of the existing waterline bridge, originally constructed in 1951. We performed remediation of lead-based paint, shoring tower design, and obtained an amended Fish Habitat Permit. We used in-river shoring towers to support the bridge while it was abated, cut into two segments and freed from the abutments. We removed the segments individually for further disassembly to maximize metal recycling.

Standing 486 feet above the base of the canyon, the Perrine Bridge is an ideal structure for jumping. Visitors can stand on either side of the canyon and watch in awe. The ariel show put on by the jumpers is truly a spectacle to see. Most jumps take place on the east side of the bridge, but keep an eye out for a dark side jumper (west side).

Weiland successfully jumped from the Twin Falls, Idaho bridge, floating into the Snake River Canyon, and making his way back to the top a total of 64 times in a 24 hour period. That is two, and 2/3 jumps every hour, or three jumps an hour for 21 hours and 20 minutes straight!
National Guardsman Dan Schilling is the record holder, at 201, for the most jumps in one day. Schilling set his record at the same location in 2006 but used a crane to get back to the middle of the bridge. Weiland, who is also a part-time fitness trainer, choose a more challenging variation of the record: the most unassisted jumps, requiring that the base jumper uses only human power with no motorized help.
The Perrine Bridge, one of the few locations on earth where a feat of this nature is possible, is one of the few places where anyone can BASE jump anytime without a permit. Setting the record from this unique spot requires the jumper to hit their landing zone, then climb up a nearly vertical canyon wall before making their way back to the middle of the bridge by bicycle.
Early in the morning of September 16, Weiland, a house painter by trade, climbed over the railing of the Perrine Bridge and started his marathon effort to recapture the record that he had previously set one year ago, in 2016, with 61 jumps. That record stood until June of this year when fellow base jumper Miles Daisher jumped at the same place 63 times.
