In this case, we tried to replicate the issue in our Intel labs but did not get the same outcome, we were not able to replicate the problem. From our side, we can confirm there is not a bug like this reported on our database, and the drivers don't seem to be the issue.

You mentioned that his issue doesn't occur with the OEM drivers and that you have no problems installing them, so we recommend those, especially for a laptop since they were tested, validated, and customized by the manufacturer of the computer.

If you must install the latest generic drivers, then the next thing we recommend to try is a clean installation of the Operating System to discard a corruption in the OS side with the Intel generic drivers.

It is worth mentioning that the driver or software for your Intel component might have been changed or replaced by the computer manufacturer (OEM). OEM drivers are handpicked and include customized features and solutions to platform-specific issues. In this case, we would like to recommend a clean installation of the graphics driver using the OEM driver from Acer* to discard driver-related issues.

Also, so we can understand better the scenario, in case the system works fine with the ACER* OEM driver but you still want to install the Intel generic drivers, please let us know if there is any particular reason why you are interested in using these drivers. For instance, do you have any other issues with the ACER* OEM driver that is not present with the generic drivers?

And about your question:
I don't recall having any problems with the OEM driver, I just had always been accustomed to using the latest available version of the generic drivers and had never had any failures. So I wanted to know if there was a bug with the latest versions or was it because of some other kind of problem peculiar to my laptop.

Miguel from Mexico, I bought a Lenovo Yoga 7i last year with this Iris Xe graphics in the USA, kind of similar story as @Daiv05, my computer was working just fine, then I updated automatically with the latest drivers and things started to happen, now my computer did show a black screen. A second monitor was running fine, I even use Ubuntu in the same computer and it was working fine. The issue starts when Windows starts running, black screen. Glad I found this thread and downloaded the Lenovo GVA driver and back to service without issues.

Intel does not verify all solutions, including but not limited to any file transfers that may appear in this community. Accordingly, Intel disclaims all express and implied warranties, including without limitation, the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, as well as any warranty arising from course of performance, course of dealing, or usage in trade.

As I have seen a few posts on this forum in regards to issues with the Iris Xe drivers that seem to have been persisting for years I thought I'd throw my hat in the ring and see if perhaps any community members have found a solution in the meantime even?

We are a law firm that runs time keeping software which is a WPF application - and it crashes multiple times daily for most of our lawyers. The application crashes result in broken time entries that our lawyers waste time trying to reconcile and is generally just unproductive for the firm, compared to our old machines on 7th Gen i5's which still ran intel, HD Graphics 620 with no issues.

We have resorted to disabling hardware acceleration which has reduced the crashes but they do still occur. Any help would be greatly appreciated in finding a more stable solution, if anyone can provide a better solution than intel has so far, please let me know!

The application suite is called Aderant, which contains multiple different applications, most commonly used application is expert time. But there are incidents for nearly all the applications in the suite as they are all WPF applications, times being the highest reported crash rate as most lawyers will be running it in the background all day to keep time.

We went to another community forum first, and I have attached the experience of another user running 12th gen i5's and the testing they have done - including the fact that the error code will change depending on the intel driver version etc. Its quite comprehensive so I have attached a screenshot for your reference as I think it will help greatly.

Based on the information shown in the SSU, the graphics driver currently installed in that specific machine is version 31.0.101.4502, which is provided by Lenovo and should be the proper driver for your device since that driver was customized by them to work with your specific platform:

For this scenario, it is important to mention that there is a newer Intel generic graphics driver version on our official website. Please try a clean installation of driver version 31.0.101.4577 following the instructions in the links below:

We would like to check back and ask if you had the chance to try our last recommendations by testing the latest available version of the driver as well as updating your BIOS to the latest version. Please let us know the results and if the issue still exists.

We understand you need more time to do the required testing with the newer driver version, so there is no problem, we will continue to monitor this thread so you can test. Let us know if the issue continues to happen once done.

Hello, everytime i try to update my graphics card my screen stays black and there is nothing I can do but to bring back my laptop to factory settings. I have tried this 2 times now and there is no change. I used the intel driver and support assistant and my Windows was in a acceptble update, my cards are 11th gen intel core i5 and intel iris xe graphics.

My advice would be: You should download and install the driver from the laptop's website, and continue installing updates as they release new versions, only from their website (or using the automatic driver tool they have if there is any..., most of top manufactures like Dell, HP, Lenovo, and so have a tool like that)

Black screen at bootup, in the login window. I could log in by using my fingerprint touch sensor, or typing in my PIN, however I didn't know that at first, so I would hold down the power button and go through the complicated procedure to boot into the recovery mode and select safe mode and then reboot again so that I could finally disable/uninstall the Intel graphics driver (while in Safe Mode), and switch to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver, which worked okay on my 1920x1080 laptop display so that I could function again. I tried many, many drivers, old and new, Dell or Intel, but the symptoms remained until some special Gaming Arc driver update on December 29th or before, when I installed it and suddenly my problems were fixed! Later WHQL drivers also worked, and so did old (March drivers from Dell), which the laptop sometimes reverts to. (Any hints on how to tell Dell not to revert my Intel driver installation? I guess I need to uninstall the Dell Support Assistant or something... But I digress...)

Some more symptoms, while the problem occurred were: first some display garbage and flashing black screen, then a constant black screen, after loading any of the following programs: Microsoft Edge, Chrome/Chromium/Electron apps, such as Discord or Slack or Twitch Studio. For the web browsers, I was able to find either registry settings or configuration files to disable GPU acceleration or Hardware Acceleration. (I could list the registry entries and configuration names, if someone cares.) But there are so many apps to update; for example Windows Store would also not display, nor would the Weather app in the tray (which I removed), and system-modal dialogs (UAC prompt) would come up blank (I would know to press alt-Y to acknowledge the UAC prompt.) Many games would go blank, e.g. BioShock Infinite, yet GTA V would still load (after some flashing and screen corruption, as if it was trying several different display modes until if found one that worked.)

Again, all these issues resolved after the late-December Gaming update (an alpha? beta? I forget...) from Intel. (It *might* have been gfx_win_101.3975.exe (WHQL?), or more likely gfx_win_101.3959.exe, both installed on 12/29/2022.)

Anyway, thank you Intel, for somehow repairing my broken Xe graphics, and I think it was a firmware update, which many drivers fail to update, but this one apparently did. I wish Intel would be a little bit more open about their updating process; in particular, what kind of firmware are you updating, or how else is it that a newer graphics driver can fix problems with older graphics drivers (that is to say, the reversion to a driver dated in April, 2022, did *NOT* result in a reversion of graphics driver corruption symptoms, so the fix was apparently persistent, as if it was a firmware update.)
