Alumni Band Newsletter April, 2012
Dear Band Alums,
I hope you are all enjoying, or at least surviving the wild spring weather around the country. May brings flowers, proms, graduations, and, hopefully, sun! I know this one is long, but there are some member updates at the end, so be sure to read those!
Homecoming 2012
No date has been set yet. The Alumni Office is planning a new promotion, so hopefully a date won’t be far behind…
Here is the new campaign:
Homecoming 2012 : HELP US MAKE HISTORY!
To celebrate Homecoming, we're asking you to share your favorite memorabilia from your University of Nevada past.
Maybe it's a ticket stub from a classic game, a dance card from back in the day or a concert flier from way-back-when. Who knows, we might feature your item in a future Nevada Silver & Blue.
So start rummaging for those memories, and send them our way!
You can mail them to us: Homecoming History, c/o Nevada Alumni Association, Mail Stop 0164, Reno, NV 89557-0164.
-OR-
You can also drop them off in person: Morrill Hall Alumni Center (located on the south end of campus), Suite 102.
Please include your name, mailing address, phone number and email address. We will photograph your item professionally and return it to you.
Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
Band Feeds:
The Band Boosters have been feeding the marching band at each home game last season. It was suggested that the Alumni Band may want to take over feeding the band for Homecoming, as we did several years ago. Since we have no working budget, we would have to use donations, either from Alumni Band members or from outside the group. I am looking for feedback. Please let me know if you would be interested in organizing, participating, or donating to this type of event.
Band Boosters:

Member Updates:Lara (Siri) Martin and Kim (Atkins) Hines
Lara (Siri) Martin has retired as guard coach after nearly 20 years of involvement with the UNR Guard program. She has helped the team find success over the past two decades while facilitating growth of the student leaders. Her position will be filled by Kim (Atkins) Hines, another UNR Guard alum! Kim has been instrumental in the success of several local high school guards and is the caption head for the color guard at "eNVision Indoor" who just took 4th place at the Winter Guard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio this month! The Nevada team is in great hands under her leadership for this fall and beyond. And guard auditions are this Saturday at UNR!
Yohanna (York) McNee
Dawn Etcheverry Miller
Dawn has finished her chemotherapy and is ‘regaining control of her life.’ We continue to wish her health and healing.
Christy Landers Childs
The Alumni Band extends its deepest condolences to Christy on the passing of her brother, Rick. He had a stroke on April 17th and fell into a coma. He subsequently passed away. Our thoughts and prayers to Christy and her family.
Please remember to send me your updates! I will send out the homecoming date the moment I have it. Until next month, be well.
