September 2012 Alumni Band Newsletter and Homecoming Update

Dear Band Alums,

I know, late as usual.  At this point, if I’m the same amount of days late each edition, that means it arrives at the same time, so monthlyJ There are some exciting updates from the Wolf Pack Marching Band and any last minute information about Alumni Band for this year.  As a reminder, any Band Alum is welcome to join us at our evening events, regardless if you are playing with the band or not. Friday night we will be at Archie’s and we would love to see you there! Due to the unusual kick off time, we will not be having our regular Saturday night pizza gathering, but we will be having lunch with the college band.  At lunch, we will be passing the hat to contribute to the John Montgomery Memorial Scholarship Fund.  Since the band no longer gets Grant in Aid or scholarship money to march, this is one place they can get some $$ for marching.

Please check the Alumni Band list at the end of this email and make sure if you are planning to participate that you are listed.  If you have any last minute Alumni Band questions, we will be on the road starting Thursday afternoon, so you can reach me by cell phone at #541-556-8641.

BIG NEWS FROM THE WOLF PACK MARCHING BAND:

The University of Nevada Wolf Pack Marching Band is thrilled to announce a partnership with Greater Nevada Credit Union!

GNCU has pledged $15,000 in matching donations each year for the next 3 years! This additional funding will help us to move forward with many exciting projects that will increase the quality of the band’s performances, as well as the experience of the students involved.  Already, the contributions of GNCU have allowed the band to plan a trip to the football game against UNLV this October, hire additional instructional staff, and purchase two new sets of color guard flags.

I have received feedback from several alumni who expressed eagerness to help out the band – even a little frustration that they have not been asked for support. Well, we are asking now! And knowing that your contribution will be doubled is just an incredible bonus. The most exciting thing about this partnership is that it allows us to think beyond merely staying afloat. We now have the means to plan for a brighter future!

To help the Wolf Pack Marching Band reach its fundraising goal of $15,000, and maximize the GNCU matching pledge, simply visit our giving page at: https://SupportNevada.unr.edu/MarchingBand

Thank you GNCU and all supporters of the Wolf Pack Marching Band!!!

 BLOGGERS OUT THERE?

Is there anyone who might be interested in keeping an account of the Alumni Band weekend to be used on the athletics site?

Schedule:

Friday, October 5, 2012

5pm Rehearsal in the band room

@6:30pm No host gathering at Archie’s

Saturday, October 6, 2012

11am Rehearsal on the field

@12:30 Lunch with the Wolf Pack Band (and collecting $$ for the scholarship)

TBA Enter the back gate to seat families and line up for pre-game.

4:05pm kick off

**There is NOT an organized event planned for Saturday night due to the late kick off time.  If you would like to meet somewhere, announce it at rehearsal.

**Some members of the Alumni Band leave after the end of half-time.  If this is you, please, PLEASE make sure your instrument & any borrowed equipment gets returned before leaving the University.  Sometimes arrangements are made to return items later, but this is very stressful for the equipment managers.  Let’s be nice guests.

**No, I don’t know where we are sitting.  I believe the same place as last year, kitty-corner across the track from the band.  I’ll let you know if I find out otherwise.

**Pick-up/pay for shirts [if you ordered one] at rehearsal.  We don’t have a budget, so we [usually Dawn] get stuck paying for shirts that are ordered and not picked up.  Sometimes we get lucky and can re-sell them.  Sometimes not.

I think that is all my slightly cranky reminders.  I hope I didn’t forget anything.  Below is my most current list for Alumni Band 2012.  If there is an error, please let me know.  It is not too late to join us!!!  See you Friday!
