Database synchronization protocol?

In the same way that UnQL standardizes document database queries is
any thought being given to a standardized document database
synchronization protocol? It would be magical if heterogeneous
document databases could seamlessly synchonize and replicate in
CouchDB-like fashion.

Hey Stuart,

Thanks for posting the idea. There's no effort to standardize the
replication "protocol" in CouchDB. It is a topic, though, that I'm
sure would interest many CouchDB users and devs. I'd recommend asking
about it at one of the CouchDB community lists:

Also, you might enjoy checking out PouchDB:
https://github.com/mikeal/pouchdb

PouchDB is an effort to build a replication-compatible data store
(wrapped around IndexedDB) to allow one to replicate CouchDB docs in
and out of a browser. It'll likely be the first project to completely
replicate the replication protocol. :)

It's a topic I'm personally interested in, so if you post to the
CouchDB community lists, please CC me on it.

Thanks for your reply Benjamin, I forwarded the same question to the
CouchDB user discussion list. And thanks for pointing me at PouchDB,
it looks really interesting, there's huge potential for multiuser
distributed mobile database apps.
