After researching over 70 bumper plates and using 32 of them, we've determined that the best bumper plates for most people are the Fringe Sport Bumper Plates. The best competition bumper plates for most people are the Rogue Black Training Bumper Plates. Taking into consideration rubber used, durability, noise, appearance, price, warranty, and availability, these bumper plates will work well for any home gym, commercial gym, or CrossFit Affiliate.
Over the years, we've compiled some of the most helpful home gym ideas as well as tips and tricks for making your gym, whether in your garage, basement, or spare bedroom a productive and enjoyable place to workout. Here are over 100 ideas you can use for your home gym. If these don't make you want to build one, we have no idea what will.
Titan Fitness is known for making budget-friendly home gym equipment. However, wading through the vast amount of equipment they sell and determining which is worth buying and which isn't can be difficult. We've used, arguably, more gear from Titan Fitness than anyone in the world (other than employees of the company) and are taking our experience as well as others to provide recommendations on the best equipment available from Titan.
Having a home gym is one of the best parts of adulthood. But, something that can be even more fun is being able to workout outside. In steps the DIY Outdoor Weightlifting Platform and Rack. Enjoy this weekend project.
The Belt Squat Machine is one of the most coveted pieces of gym equipment available today. Although there are many options, including those made by Westside Barbell, Pit Shark, Matt Wenning, and others, they're all pretty pricey. This DIY Belt Squat Machine requires no special skills and costs well under any other available options.
The main bench that dominates the gym is the Rogue Westside Bench. I chose to put the Rogue Westside Bench in the garage because I was constantly getting requests for reviews on it, I love its sturdiness, and I got it for next to nothing from a friend.
The bars I most often use are the Eleiko WL Training Barbell, Kabuki Strength Next-Gen Power Barbell, and the Rogue Cerakote Ohio Bar, but I cycle through all of them to update reviews and keep them oiled and clean.
There are a million and one specialty bars available for every application imaginable, but the bar I would most suggest is the Kabuki Strength Duffalo Bar. You can find the full, in-depth review we did on it here.
In my opinion, steel plates are cheap, but bumper plates will protect your bar, floor, and be more versatile. If you have no plans to do Olympic lifts or drop the bar, then steel plates are fine. However, if you plan to drop the bar, ever, then I would definitely suggest investing in bumper plates.
The bumper plates I use most often are the American Barbell Urethane Bumper Plates. Urethane, when properly formulated can be an extremely durable material for bumper plates. They also have incredibly vibrant colors and just fit the bar perfectly.
One of the cool things about the Torque Tank is that anyone can use, no matter their strength or skill level. The magnetic resistance is a great idea and something more and more companies are starting to use.
This restaurant was found by chance. I saw an advertisement while I was out one day and since I will forever be a sucker for some good pasta, I decided to check it out (after my next paycheck came in). Full disclosure: You will want to have a map or GPS app for this one. I could have never run into the Pasta Garage just driving around; it sits right in the middle of a neighborhood on the other side of Lexington. But I daresay it is worth the drive to give it a try.
The exterior of the building looks like a literal garage and the inside aesthetic follows a similar laid-back approach. You enter to wooden tables and metal chairs, take a look at the menu while in line, order at the counter and pick up your food at the window when your buzzer goes off (bistro-style, anyone?).
We started the meal with a caprese gnocchi (a variety of pasta typically made from potatoes). The dumplings were stuffed with tomato, basil and mozzarella and then fried. They were served with both a basil pesto and a vodka sauce drizzled with aged balsamic. Despite the blackened edges, the texture was complementary to the melted cheese and the notes of the earthy basil, acidic tomato, sweet sauce and fattiness from the fry all paired hand in hand.
These, though, are minor complaints. I'm impressed at how well the system works and, crucially, how easy it was to install. Wyze has already figured out how to make its cameras a breeze, and the garage portion adds basically zero overhead. I even like the shrill little beeps the Controller makes before opening the door, while the integrated light on there is impressively bright.
And, if all that's not enough, I feel remarkable peace of mind knowing I can tune in and see the big dumb wing on the back of my Subaru sitting there, unmolested. (If it's not too sunny outside, anyway.)
Given my misgivings about Cam Plus and its ever-encroaching paywall, I'm glad to say that none of the above features require a Cam Plus subscription. The only reason to pay extra is if you want full-motion replays of motion events captured on camera. Without the sub, you just get a still.
Finally, a few notes on IoT devices in general. Allowing something on the Internet to open a physical portal to your home is not something that should be done lightly. Wyze's security record is far from pristine, especially this massive data leak in 2019, but I give the company credit for providing frequent firmware updates and its support for two-factor authentication.
If you use a device like this, I suggest setting up a second wireless network if possible, separate from anything containing sensitive data. Make sure that you take advantage of that two-factor protection, use a unique, secure password, and make sure you're applying those firmware updates frequently.
And remember, your typical garage wireless door opener from the '80s and '90s offered just 4,096 unique codes, meaning anyone with a wireless device could open everyone on the block in seconds. If you still have an opener like that, installing something like this is actually a massive security upgrade.
This set is separated into 6 sections. Inside, you will find 20 mid to large sized bags and numerous smaller bags, a 234-page instruction manual, a typical 3232 baseplate, and two 616 light blue grey plates. (Note that you will find an additional 616 plate in Section 5 and two more in Section 6 for roofs and floors.)
This initial part of the build is devoted to placing tiles on nearly 75% of the 3232 baseplate. Amongst all of the tiles used is a new piece, White Tile, Modified 2 x 2 with Large Hole, part ID 27448. I played with this part for a few minutes before placing it on the baseplate to see if anything would snap into it other than the back of round plates. While nothing in regular system seemed to fit inside the hole, you can attach a 22 or larger part on top and twist it, allowing you to build at any angle you want. As more builders discover this part, we will see even more creative uses. I should note that the connection here is very sturdy unlike other ways this build does 45-degree angles.
By the end of bag 3, the first floor is complete. When done this base has a fairly sturdy feel to it. It also looks good except for the wall area beside the roll-up door. The final task to complete this angled floor of the building involves adding many single stud connections.. Building the glass faade of the garage was done with a single stud at both the left and right ends of the wall, a stack of round 11 brick and plate and held in place with the new plate modified 1 x 2 rounded with 2 open studs. Whilst allowing the wall to be constructed, it also meant that during construction the wall was rather flimsy so I was concerned about how strong it would be when done as I often transport my modulars to the various town and train shows our LUG puts on so not having to rebuild this the morning of a show is important. I was quite pleased that it was secure and the pieces held together nicely when it was completed.
The color scheme of the connected awning ties in beautifully. It was fragile while being built but holds together well once completed. I felt while building the awning that if they had used a larger single piece instead of several smaller ones in a few steps of this section, it likely would have been stronger during building and would not have fallen apart while building it. The larger failure in the design is yet to be addressed though. This occurring on the first level with the access stairs to the Vet clinic and apartment.
The Juliet balcony detail on the second floor would have worked so much better in the apartment level where it would make more sense and have the flowers and window on the second floor at the animal clinic. No one waiting for the vet with a sick animal is going to go out on the balcony. This unnecessary addition would raise the rental rate on the apartment!
I should also note that if you flip a 16 tile with a 14 tile with 2 studs located at the top of the garage wall next to the staircase you can then have the second and third floors be interchangeable allowing for more playability.

The first Garage and Tow-truck in the Minifigure era was 6363 Auto Repair Shop in1980: however, there were no cars requiring repair. In 1985, the scene took off, when a small garage and three go-kart-like vehicles (along with a tow/transport truck) came packaged on 32x32stud baseplate. The office off to the side of the garage allowed kids to get right into role-playing the shadier side of the auto crash repair business than might be considered normal. The cars seeking repair were go-karts, and could be customised in a variety of permutations very readily.
