Hey there,

I did mentioned this in my previous post, but thought this might warrant a separate discussion.
Is there a way to get an author's full name from OpenAlex (first and last name) instead of just the display name? We'd like to use the data to generate citations, for which we'd need a full name, as different citation styles have different requirements on how a name is displayed, i.e. initials + last name etc.

Thanks, Tobias

Hi Tobias,

No, right now we only support display name and do not have separate fields for first and last name. We keep a list of feature requests that users ask for so I will write this one down.

You can see the available fields for OpenAlex at the documentation here. Also, we have a separate OpenAlex user's group you can check out!

Thanks,
Casey

Oh one more thing that could be helpful... in the background we are combining the first name, middle name (or initials), and last name into a standard format for OpenAlex (first middle last). So you should be able to reliably parse the separate name fields from display_name and arrange them for a citation format.

Thanks,
Casey
