I have multiple google accounts and they were all hacked. I immediately changed my passwords and set up 2-factor authentication with both my phone and authenticator app for the two accounts I cared the most about, but only changed my password for the third account & the hackers, I assume spitefully, used account recovery to get around my new password for the 3rd account and set up 2-factor pointing to their phone number. I am now completely locked out of that account but can see what they are doing (for the time being) because the security alerts are still being sent to one of my other emails (they have made purchases to the google play store which I've flagged with my bank already). This happened while I was sleeping just a few hours ago and I am trying to take care of it ASAP, but account recovery is not working for me (as I do not have access to their phone or the log on codes that they generated) and I have found nowhere to call Google to try and take care of this.

I'm no lawyer, either, but I would say in a case like this, where the client purportedly did due diligence in confirming the source IP address of the message, and Bob's Auto's account WAS legitimately 'hacked', I would think a question for partial (VERY partial) liability would be, "Did they take reasonable measures to secure their account?" So if their password was 'a', 'password' or 'Bob's Auto's'... a judge might rule they should have done more. Like the aforementioned parking lot with the 'We're not Liable' sign... Well, if your parking lot is in Chicago's South Side, your fencing has been run down, your lights have been smashed and you haven't hired a replacement security guard yet... You may be seen as not having taken 'reasonable measures' to protect those vehicles. But if you show recent invoices for fencing repair, your lights were working the night before, and your guard just wasn't in that part of the lot at the time... all 'reasonable measures'.

If you try to log in to your account only to discover that your password is not working, it either means you forgot it, or someone has hacked your account. Most hackers seek to shut you off from accessing your account and will change the password. But some criminals prefer that their victims not know their accounts have been hacked, so they will leave the password unchanged.
Hackers will often open unread emails, send spam from hacked accounts, and email friends and contacts to further continue scamming and hacking. You might also notice emails from Gmail or other sites notifying you about security and password changes. This is a clear indication of a manipulated account.
One of the main reasons cybercriminals hack into a Gmail account is to gain the resources to set new passwords to access other sites, including bank accounts, e-wallets, crypto sites, or work systems. First up in the common password hacking tactics guide is the dictionary attack. Why is it called a dictionary attack? Because it automatically tries every word in a defined "dictionary" against the password. The dictionary isn't strictly the one you used in school.
Shoulder surfing sounds a little ridiculous, but it does happen. It's like one of those hacking tricks you think would never work. But if you're working in a busy downtown café and not paying attention to your surroundings, someone could get close enough to note your password as you type, but it's probably not the easiest way to figure out someone's password.
Somehow the virus contained in this file [link removed by moderator] and this file [link removed by moderator] immediately broke out of my 360 TotalSecurity Sandbox and not only that, it started adding all my logged in gmail accounts to dropbox!!! IP History shows a browser used in Sweden. I have 2FA enabled for all gmail accounts (no mobile number) so it's beyond me how they can add my gmail accounts (even Apps for your Domain) to Dropbox (without Dropbox being able to find the account through password reset). I quickly noticed the file was not safe so I disconnected the internet and cleaned up (only 1 PuP file for some Russian mail app in AppData\Local). Yet within 20 seconds the damage was already done... ;-(
1. how can dropbox give gmail accounts access to non-existing accounts (I got almost a dozen notification emails from Google, they are legit),
2. how can a virus read my logged in gmail addresses (I don't store any passwords but I do use lastpass, which wasn't the leak because that contains many more gmail accounts that didn't get breached)?
3. Next to the dropbox warnings, I also got a password reset email from Bittrex crypto exchange... I made that account last week, with a non-existing email address (but catch-all of my domain)... How the frack did they get that email address that quickly?
4. WHAT INFORMATION IN MY Gmail CAN BE ACCESSED THROUGH DROPBOX???!!!
Luckily I investigated the Google Notifications on my Mobile phone and immediately changed all passwords... Yet I have no idea if my private information has been stolen already... Access to my gmail would be a hackers' paradise. So far, all is good BUT I have not forgotten the password reset request for my virgin Bittrex account...!
