PandaFree Antivirus is a free antivirus software that offers real-time protection against cyber attacks and offline threats. Designed for Windows, the software lets you schedule scans, check USBs for threats, and get free VPN access. The lightweight program relies on cloud technology and protects your computer against spyware and malware.

The antivirus software provides real-time protection by continually checking system files for any suspicious behaviour. For new files or applications that you download, you can expect a 30-second gap. During this period, Panda Antivirus blocks access to the downloaded file so that it can scan and isolate it if required. If the app comes out to be safe, you can access it without any further delay.

In addition to this, Panda Free Antivirus features automatic USB protection. Once installed, the app will check all USB drives that you plug into your computer. It will scan all available files on the flash drive and only give the go-ahead after ensuring that all files are free from malware. With this free antivirus tool, you can also run a custom scan of a USB or a disk, anytime you want.

It has a clean and simple interface that both beginners and advanced users will appreciate. It opens to a screen-size window with a beautiful background image and various buttons to perform different functions. From here, you can schedule scans, check isolated files, and review activity. You can also use the dashboard to customise the background image and check the status of your PC.

When you complete the download on your computer, it provides you with free VPN access with a daily-limit of 150 MB. Once active, you can browse the web anonymously, bypass region-specific restrictions, and prevent hackers from accessing your data, documents, photos, and more. The free antivirus software lets you choose from a list of 23 countries and provides robust security.

Panda Antivirus is free to download and features various tools to keep your system safe against spyware, viruses, and malware. The free version provides USB protection, a rescue kit for emergencies and VPN access. It also works well on all Windows versions, including Windows 10. For users looking for advanced system protection, Panda Security provides premium versions of this tool with additional features and functions.

Panda Antivirus Pro provides protection against all known and unknown viruses. It also monitors users browsing activity and blocks the web pages flagged as suspicious. If the user system is already infected, the application can scan the system for any activity and delete the file which is causing it. It is safer, and faster antivirus with real-time protection. It supports different features and tools which will enhance computer safety, security, and privacy. The antivirus has a huge virus detection database with all know viruses and the database get daily updated with newly discovered viruses.

I also found FREEAV.exe is zipped and using 7-ZIP extracted all the files. In there is the PandaCloudAntivirus_x64.msi installer and setup.exe installer. Unfortunately, running each one came up with the same .NET error.

...

I have given up on Panda and have decided it is not suitable for XP 64-bit and will move on and try others.

Although I can't say much about the quality of its protection, you have the option of installing the Avira Scan Engine which increases the detection rate of this programme considerably, as AV-Test has shown in the follow-up version 9.2. Here is an image taken from the test:

Then I removed these updates and finally .NET 4 and tried installing the version with slipstreamed updates from (I used cmd-line parameters to exclude older .NETs), but the installer failed after it started with exception.

@AstroSkipper I have builded new testing machine capable to run XP - 11 (Asus B360, Intel i5 9400F, 32GB RAM, NVIDIA 980 Ti). I will try today install XP x64 with everything until 08-2019 to see how it goes. I think I have succesfully installed Panda on my x64 images in past. But I will download latest offline installer to confirm it.

I think there is something missing in Windows XP 64 bit. But in the end, we have to accept that Panda Antivirus Free is not compatible with this OS due to problems in recognising an already existing .NET Framework 4 installation.

If you can get it up and running on XP 64-bit, well and good, but I do not think it matters any more. One of the reasons I am not bothering with Panda, is that I read the review on the PC Magazine site:

This project is very extensive and involves a lot of work.

In-depth research in particular is very time-consuming, but necessary. So be patient, especially if the list of programs fills up slowly! As always: Good things come to those who wait. And just for clarification, I won't test all of them by myself, of course. Here, other members can make a perfect contribution with their knowledge or experiences already made.

Avast bought AVG before they ended support for XP/Vista, and AVG 18.8 has the same engine as Avast 18.8 (although the UI is markedly different). If you should find that one will not work on XP x64, then it would almost certainly be a waste of time to test the other. (There has more recently been an even bigger merger, and Avast/AVG is now part of a multinational corporation called Gen Digital along with the Norton and Avira antivirus brands.)

The XP is connected to my network, which is connected to the internet. I use Avast Antivirus on my XP, and best I can tell, it still gets updated occasionally for virus protection. But it seems to overwhelm my XP. When I boot the XP, AvastUI.exe, (and sometimes also avBugReport.exe) takes 100% of my CPU. After 30 minutes or so, I have to do a hard close of the XP (by holding down the power button). After a couple of restarts, the XP will usually boot successfully.

I did an internet search a month or so ago, and found an article dated mid 2021, which was a comparison of XP antivirus programs. But when I went to the websites of some of the top rated programs, one was last updated in 2014, and two of the others websites no longer functioned. So clearly this was an old article, which someone just put a new date on.

Interesting. I did an internet search and found a PC Mag Review from 3/30/2021 that said Avast had bought AVG, and the two products were essentially the same now. I have no idea if my Avast has a Enhanced Firewall. I will check and see.

I use eScan Internet Security on my main Vista machine. The UI has an XP flavor to it. Their system requirements on the linked page say that it runs on Windows versions all the way back to Windows 2000 Professional Service Pack 4 (!!).

Panda Dome also works on earlier versions of Windows all the way to XP SP3. I have the free version on a secondary Vista system, and the paid version on my Vista laptop. No complaints here.

Both of your recommendations talk about protecting a network. My Windows 7 desktop (on my network) uses Microsoft Security Essentials, and my Windows 10 laptop (also on the network) uses Windows Security. Will there be any conflict if I add Panda Dome or eScan Internet Security?

Are you looking for a free or paid version of antivirus for your Win XP computer, and do you want a product that includes a firewall? Could you clarify if you are currently using a paid version of Avast Internet Security or AVG Internet Security, and were you using the v18.8 release mentioned in the July 2018 Avast announcement End of Support for Windows XP/Vista?
