Hello to everyone on the SfN DC list!

I wanted to forward an invitation to anyone who is willing to schlep it up to my neck of the woods in Maryland for a COVID-safe, outdoor social gathering. I know many of us are aching for some sort of safe, social gathering, so all are welcome, and please feel free to invite others. It will be fairly barebones in terms of what I will be providing, but I mostly wanted to provide a place to gather and socialize with other cool science peeps in the area. Many of us more "senior" grad students in the neuroscience program at UMD feel a bit disconnected from the newer cohorts that have come because everything has been online, and I'm sure many of you have had similar experiences, so this will be a way to reconnect.

Hi all!

You are all invited to an outdoor social gathering at my place on Saturday, September 18th @ 2 PM (in case of rain, we'll reschedule to the following week)! I have a big field right in front of my place that is ideal for a COVID-safe, outdoor gathering that can scale to any size group! What you need to bring

• Camping chair if you have one (I only have a few)
  
• Bring your own drinks, food, treats, whatever
  
• Lawn games if you have any, like cornhole, ladder toss, kubb etc (I unfortunately have none), balls for sportsing with (if you so desire), or any other outdoor activity you have in mind
  
• Feel free to bring friends, significant others, offspring, whoever
• Depending on the weather, sunscreen if you need it
• Bring a mask so you can go inside to use the bathroom or anything else

Since we'll be outside, I have no mask requirements, but please feel free to keep your mask on if you are more comfortable with it on. I will ask that you mask up to go inside if you need to use the restroom, wash your hands or anything else. And, obviously, let's all do our best to remain disease free and be respectful to others' boundaries!

I live about 15-20 minutes northeast of campus, but unfortunately there isn't a convenient public transportation option, so if you can buddy up with someone that would be great. Please email me directly if you are in need of a ride and/or if you are willing to provide someone else with a ride, and I can try to match people up!!

Very tentative potential DIY t-shirt printing activity

I can't commit to this yet because I'm unsure if I will be able to complete it in time, but I'm working on a silk screen to print your own t-shirts with! The idea would be that you bring your own t-shirt that you'd want the print on, and I can show you how to print the design on it. I'm working on a NACS Methods Seminar logo which will likely be a single color. If I can pull it off in time, I'll send an update with the specifics of what you need to bring. I'm so unsure if I'll be able to pull it off, that I'm hiding this in white text as a secret message:)
