Dear friend,
The Guruvayurappan Bhajan Samaj Trust (SGBS) has been committed to the promotion of art and culture for over 48 years. For more than three decades, it has been recognised as a premier cultural institution in Bangalore.
Our journey has been driven by passion. From hosting nearly 120 days of performances annually to creating platforms where art was made accessible to all—often at no cost—we have stayed true to our founding spirit. Through the Unnati Centre auditorium, we took a significant step in democratising access to the arts, with a strong focus on Carnatic music and classical dance forms from South India.
Today, we find ourselves at an inflection point.
We want to return to our roots—with greater ambition. Our vision is to build one of the country’s most vibrant cultural institutions, hosting over 200 days of programming each year, spanning diverse genres from across India and beyond.
To support this vision, we have initiated the development of a new auditorium on land recently acquired near KR Puram. This will be a landmark project, with an estimated cost exceeding ₹25 crores. However, building infrastructure is only the beginning. Ensuring its sustainability and nurturing a thriving cultural ecosystem is the real challenge ahead.
Since our inception in 1978 and formalisation in 1993, the Trust has been stewarded by deeply committed volunteers. We believe the time has now come to bring in fresh energy—individuals who are willing to contribute meaningfully and help shape the next phase of this journey.
This is an active, working role—not a ceremonial association.
We are looking for individuals who are willing to invest their time and energy, are economically stable, and are deeply committed to the cause of art and culture. This is an opportunity to build something enduring and be part of a meaningful legacy.
While this message may reach many, we are conscious that only a few will truly resonate with its intent—and step forward.
If you believe you are one of them, we invite you to express your interest in taking on an active role as an office bearer, with the potential to grow into a trustee over time.
The current trustees have given their best over the years, but we remain convinced that the best is yet to come.
