Dear Ken and colleagues,
Thank you very much for the updated unmarked package and the improvements to the occuComm function, it looks very interesting.

I was wondering whether it would be possible to apply that function to a larger study area (multi-regions), for example across different study regions of the country. Because I am thinking of using that function by including different study regions as a random effect in my model.

Thanks in advance for your help and I would greatly appreciate any guidance you can provide on this.

Hi Lwin,

You can include a random intercept in the occuComm formula. However I think it would be better to have both random intercepts *and slopes* by region. Unfortunately occuComm does currently support random slopes for grouping factors besides species. For that you'd have to code a custom model in JAGS or nimble, or fit separate models by region.
