Dear all,

We (Andy Royle, Marc Kéry, Josh Twining, Ken Kellner and Maëlis Kervellec) are hoping to run an in-person Applied Hierarchical Modelling (AHM) workshop in August of this year. Before finalizing details at the end of May, we wanted to gauge interest before we drive forwards with this plan.

The workshop would be hosted at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York from August 24 – August 28, 2026. It will be focused on the use of likelihood and Bayesian methods to fit a large range of hierarchical models, critical tools to all ecologists and wildlife managers. The workshop consists of a mix of lecturing and active learning with hands-on assistance from us helping you understand and apply a variety of models. The typical audience is a mix of graduate students, postdocs, and wildlife professionals, and topics include:

  • Occupancy models for binary detection/nondetection data
  • Multi-species occupancy and abundance-mediated interaction models
  • Binomial N-mixture models for count data
  • Multinomial N-mixture models for capture-recapture data
  • Distance sampling models
  • Integrated models

If you are interested, please let us know by 1 June 2026. Once we reach a quorum sufficient to cover expenses, we will push on and share the link to register with all those who have expressed interest, and also more widely advertise the workshop. Please flag interest by emailing Andy Royle (aro...@usgs.gov) with CC to joshua....@oregonstate.edu, kell...@msu.edu, marc...@vogelwarte.chmk2...@cornell.edu which will get your name included in an organizing email list.

You will find some additional information in the attached flier.

Thanks, best regards,

Andy, Marc, Josh, Ken, Maëlis
