hello all,

 we're hoping to hire a graduate student this summer (and possibly longer) to work on some machine learning problems related to image classification. The announcement is copied below.  Please circulate to anyone you know who might be a suitable candidate.

Student Service Contractor Needed: Quantitative Ecology – Statistical Modeling, Machine learning, R/python programming.

USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center

The Quantitative Methods and Decision Science Team at USGS Eastern Ecological Science Center (formerly: Patuxent Wildlife Research) is searching for a motivated and talented research assistant to assist with image classification projects from ecological studies. The position will be filled as a contractor, duration of the position is 1 to 2 years (based on performance and funding availability) and the start date is flexible.

The position involves programming to implement image segmentation and identification algorithms using R and Python. Knowledge of methods for image classification is required.   

Applicants must be a current student at a U.S. college or university.   

Compensation depends on current educational status and location with the range being from $24.08/hour - $40.54/hour.

I'm re-upping this post with a clarification. I'm looking for a grad-student level person who can work part-time during the academic year (16-20 hrs per week) or full-time during the summer. The position is funded for about 1 year right now at a part time rate.
It was pointed out to me that the wording was vague, as noted in the original announcement it might look like a full-time commitment. It is not.
