Subject:        Help Prevent Suicide in Clark County - Saturday, Feb. 4, 2011

Good afternoon -

On Saturday, February 4th, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) will host the 5th Annual Clark County Out of the Darkness Community Walk at Centennial Hills Park in Las Vegas. I would like to personally invite you to be a part of this important community event.

This year’s event will feature powerful presentations from survivors of suicide loss, a Community Memory Tree to honor the local lives lost to suicide, and a 5K (3-mile) walk around the park to raise awareness of the need to strengthen prevention efforts in our community.  Funds raised from the event will help establish new resources and programs in Nevada to educate residents about mental illness, identify at-risk individuals, and provide support to those impacted by suicide loss.

There are several ways you can get involved:

1. REGISTER TO WALK -- There is no fee to register and participate in this important community event. Simply visit www.outofthedarkness.org to register as an individual or to form a team! With your participation, you will not just be walking, and your donors will not just be writing a check - you will be helping to save lives.

2. HOST A COMMUNITY RESOURCE BOOTH -- If you are part of a local organization or business, this is a great opportunity to distribute literature, promote your programs or services, advertise upcoming events, and recruit new volunteers. You do not have to offer mental health services to participate -- you just need to be a local organization or business that serves the community! Students clubs welcome! To secure a spot, please complete the attached application form.

3. SIGN-UP TO VOLUNTEER -- Here is your chance to really make a difference! There are many volunteer opportunities available including registration assistants, remembrance activities team, route monitors, water and snack runners, and spirit team! Volunteers are needed one hour before the event begins, until the event closes (8 a.m. - 12 p.m.). This is a great opportunity to earn community service credit. Students and large groups welcome! For more information, please reply to this email.

4. DONATE TO THE EVENT -- Simply visit www.outofthedarkness.org and search for the "Clark County Walk". You can sponsor an individual walker or make a general event donation. All proceeds will benefit LOCAL and NATIONAL suicide prevention and awareness programs.

I truly hope you can join us in reaching out to improve our community's physical, emotional, and mental health, and raise awareness of the campaign to prevent suicide and save lives. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
Jessica
