We have the Zebra TLP 2824-Z Plus label printer (ZLP). We recently purchased it, installed the driver and software successfully, and calibrated successfully (held button down at solid green, got single blink then double blink, and then released the button). We went to Zebra and retrieved the updated drivers (certified) and installed them (fyi have tried with and without these drivers - will do nothing without them).
Immediately after configuration, it will do a test print, and let us send the command to feed a label. If we try to print configuration or anything else, to include printing actual labels, it prints two labels/pages, stops, and then blinks red. If we lift the top off and put it down, it blinks green until we press the button. At that time, it will feed about 2 to 3 inches of labels and then print one label. The process repeats indefinitely until we uninstall the printer.
How do we fix this issue so we can get a configuration or just print our labels? Or, better yet, what are we doing wrong and how do we do it right? Our last printer worked fine with the exception that they stopped making the labels we used with that printer.
The drive sends down an initialization sequence for the printer based on the settings in the Printer Preferences. If, for example, your Printer preferences say that the printer is Thermal mode instead of direct thermal, the driver will send down the command to set the printer to Thermal mode (Ribbon). If your printer is printing Direct Thermal, and has no ribbon physically installed, the printer will think it is in an error mode with no ribbon. This could cause the issue you are seeing.
This guide will walk you through setting up a Zebra LP 2824 Plus thermal label printer to print labels from Heartland Retail via a LAN connection. This printer also supports connecting the printer via USB.
The Zebra LP 2824 Plus printer must be connected via ethernet cable to the same local area network (LAN) that the computers or POS stations that you plan to print from are connected to. This usually requires connecting the printer directly to the router via an ethernet cable.
The printer's IP address can be determined by holding the feed button down until the light around it flashes once. Let go of the feed button. The printer will spit out labels containing lots of diagnostic information, including the IP Address
You must print with the OSX System Printing dialog. Some browsers (Google Chrome for instance) come with their own print renderer for PDF documents. These renderers do not always print labels correctly.
I have Zebra LP 2824 printer. I don't have the serial number, but I found out that it used to be from UPS to print labels. From the store Zebra told me that I can use it to print labels for jewellery. Is there any way that we can fix that problem because is only printing half of the label?
Well since I am leaving for the day I will leave you with a quick walk through on how to change the label size. Right click the printer, click properties, and go into printing preferences in the general tab. Next choose your label size:
While you are in there you might want to go to media settings and change the darkness, I have found through trial and error that 22 darkness looks very nice. You will also have to do the exact same thing you just did here, in printing defaults under the advanced tab (pictured below). The layout after getting in there is exactly the same as printing preferences:
Now keep in mind it is entirely possible that it will still continue to print with the old settings, sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't. Zebra support is unable to explain to me why this happens (even on brand new printers). Anyway if this happens to you a firmware update will be necessary. You can get the new firmware and the flash utility here. You will have to create an account to download it but it shouldn't take too long and they don't ask any specifics about your printer (if I remember correctly).
EDIT: The steps I outlined above are for standard single labels if you have double labels or specialty labels it may differ slightly. Just let me know what your setup is if you don't use standard single labels.
We are trying to print Barbell tags for jewelry but the barcodes are printing to big and the layout is wrong. We are looking for a way to downsize and reposition the barcode on a Zebra LP2824 printer.
I was able to run your post by our Retail Team and they are tracking this request, but we do not have a specific timeline for when a smaller barcode label may become available. I can certainly see how having a smaller label for jewelry is important for presentation and functionality.
FYI, I don't have a Zebra printer, so I've been doing everything manually regarding printing barcodes. Once I decide on a simple SKU number for that item (and I've found small SKU numbers generate barcodes that scan better with my inkjet printer), I enter the SKU on a website that generates an image file of the barcode (from onlinelabels.com). I then place that barcode on a sheet in Indesign...(I used to be a graphic designer, so I'm used to working in pagelayout programs) and add prices. I copy and repeat as many as I need and print on my inkjet printer.
I reached out to the Retail Team, and I'm afraid there's no shareable timeline to report yet. I've merged you to this thread, as we're continuously tracking this request and we'll post updates here if anything changes.
When can we expect an update on the barcode labels please? I am also experiencig problems with the standardized sizes. They are way too big and long for smaller products and not to meantion a lot of blank space. It would be helpful to be able to use the butterfly labels aswell as 1x1" square label.
Hi @FlowersCo - No timeline to share for that, unfortunately. We do keep those links that Tom posted updated, so you can check out those for updates or come to back to the community where we update new features.
4) Here is a link to some software that is supposedly free from a search I just did. I have not tried these since I use my printers software. 11 best Free -list-of-best-free-barcode-generator-software-for-windows/
We currently do not support smaller label sizes than what is already offered in the Square for Retail subscription. You would need to look at other barcode printing softwares to see if they had sizes that worked better for your business. I would be careful having too small of a size, though, as I have seen some sellers have a lot of trouble actually reading the barcodes for tiny labels.
2-1/4" x 170' Iconex Sticky Media (58mm) and I used the 58mm (A) paper roll guide that comes withe the Star TSP654IISK and it works fine. But there is no setting in Square register to change paper roll size from 80mm to 58mm thereby changing font size. So here we are. My staff just says the 80mm paper is just too bug. We sell bubble tea, frappes, smoothies in 16, 20 and 24 ounce PET cups. 80mm is just too large for aesthic use, the 58mm paper would be perfect. We just need a way in square register to change the settings. The are SDK at Star Micronics to write your own code, for android, IOS and windows. I even see that for windows you can change the font and size for star printers. So I am hoping that developers at Square read this and can provide an update for Square Register that lets us use the 58mm sticky media. I just tested it today with the Star TSP654IISK and Square Register and it worked great except the left quarter of the print was cutoff. This additional setting would be great for many of us out there in the trenches.
Hey @lulu90803, thanks for surfacing! I went to check on this and it looks like some other sellers brought up a similar request in this thread: Square for Retail: I'm trying to print jewelry tags, is there a way to edit the size?
One of the smallest in its class, the easy-to-use 2824 Plus desktop printer tucks into your tightest work spaces and prints 2-inch-wide labels or receipts with best-in-class print speeds. The 2824 Plus includes Zebra Setup Utilities, which guides you through simple setup steps so you can get up and running quickly. It also includes an OpenACCESS design and clear media window for simple media loading and monitoring.
A robust 32-bit RISC processor increases throughput and productivity with faster formatting and first label out. For greater flexibility and enhanced performance, choose from a variety of options like convenient peeler and cutter, and 64 MB Flash memory that lets you store and use more graphics and fonts. With co-resident EPL and ZPL programming languages, the 2824 Plus works seamlessly with other Zebra printers, while serial/ parallel/USB connectivity and optional 10/100 Ethernet allow easy system integration.
I created a project on Visual Studio 2005. Within the project there is one report that prints fine on my local machine but when I move it to the client the page is not passing with the right dimensions. It is very strange. I'm using a Zebra Printer TLP 2824 page size 2.25 x .75 no margins.
I tried direct print with the above code and also using a viewer on a form. Using a viewer I can see it well on my PC but again on the client I can only see a page of about 1.25";; x 1.25"; (but still the whole box object prints on the 2.25";; width and with the right height) just the text is being cut out or something by the width.
The Zebra EPL and ZPL desktop printers have been designed to support the KDU Plus (or other external devices) connecting directly to the serial port. These printers have an RS-232 compatible interface that includes a 5 Volt DC power circuit available for external devices such as scanners and the KDU Plus.
The Zebra ZPL Industrial Printers class printer requires hardware reconfiguration to support the KDU Plus. These printers have an RS-232 compliant interface that by default does not present the 5 Volts DC necessary for external devices such as scanners or the KDU Plus. The ZPL Industrial Printers must be reconfigured by an authorized Zebra service representative to provide this required voltage on pin 9 changing a jumper strap on the logic board.
