Goethe-Institut Ottawa invites you to the viewing of the third movie
in our programme 'German Movies at Saint Paul University' in 2009.

On Friday, November 13th, at 7:30 p.m., we are showing Benjamin
Heisenberg’s film “Sleeper” (100 min.) (2005).
Please note that the movie will be shown in the Amphitheatre (1124).
Free admission. In German with English subtitles.

Sleeper by Benjamin Heisenberg with Bastian Trost and Mehdi Nebbou.
Germany (2005)
Before taking up his new post at the department of virology at the
university in Munich, Johannes is asked by the secret service to
report on his future colleague, the Algerian Farid, who is suspected
of being a terrorist sleeper. Initially, Johannes refuses, but
professional rivalry and jealousy over a woman eventually awaken his
defensive mechanisms and he contacts the secret service. This
restrained and finely textured psychological study leaves the viewer
to observe and to judge who is the sleeper here and whether he is
activated by power or personal motives.

Johannes, étudiant en thèse de virologie, est chargé d’espionner son
collègue algérien, soupçonné d’être un « espion dormant ». Sur fond de
recherche scientifique et de peur du terrorisme, ce film nous montre
l’influence destructrice que le climat d’insécurité et de soupçon
collectif dans la société peut avoir sur la vie privée de chacun.
