When does development begin?

I saw the 6-month timeline thingy. Are these guys waiting to hit $15,000 total donations before they start developing or what?

Development for the game has been going on for the past few years. Nik has previously kept the game as a project of his (due to technical limitations, and other priorities). Him and his and colleagues describe it as "boot-leg development". So other then what most people think the game has been being developed for quite awhile; it is just now that Nik is able to fully devote his time to the creation of the game.
