We now have a Universal Subtitles Firefox Addon, and we need your help testing it out. It's very very alpha, but we want to release it soon and with your help we can catch problems. Sending as an attachment... open in Firefox and click "Install".
It also will be a huge help in spotting general problems with embedding in specific sites (like, sometimes the site's HTML interacts with the widget in an unpredictable way).
This addon (built using the new Jetpack framework) adds our "widgetizer script" to pages you visit. The script then looks to see if there are any Universal Subtitles compatible videos in the page, and then it puts our subtitling widget around them.
Some known issues:
• Most Flash videos (e.g. Youtube) will be set to a default, small size
• Blip.TV and some other sitesʼ videos will play in our custom player
• The widgetizer script fails to work on some sites (namely, Youtube, which will be fixed before release). If you find other sites, let us know.
Note, the same "widgetizer script" can be used to enable Universal Subtitles on all the videos on your site, in one fell swoop. Just add the following line right before the </head> tag in your site template or your blog's theme:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://dev.universalsubtitles.org/site_media/js/mirosubs-widgetizer.js"></script>
NOTE: all of this is for testing purposes only, and the subtitles you make using these tools will get saved to the dev site (where they might not survive the next upgrade).
Thanks!
