Hi,

Look for new blood to join the ranks, hopefully: I sent a note about both the OVA/OVC and Universal Subtitles to the coordinator of the FCC Open Developer Day.  This morning, during his opening remarks, he mentioned them and provided the URL to the Universal Subtitles page.  Several folks have come up to me to chat about it, though I've told them I'm a relative newbie here.  For more info see:

Thanks, Kevin, that's great!

Outreach like this is super, super helpful and our staff is tiny; if anyone wants to help us reach more people and organizations, please just go for it or ask if you have questions or want pointers!

We'll be posting something about this today, I think, but the number of videos on UniversalSubtitles.org has doubled in the past 3 weeks.  I have a hunch it's going to double again in the next 3!

Hi there,
I am new blood as well so thanks for recruiting me. So far I have just been looking at what is going on in this group but I have a question. I am just submitting a proposal to explore the world of 3-D subtitling and captioning and I was wondering whether there is anyone else working on this issue. I don't think it is enough just to consider depth of field issues when we are talking about 3-D; there are many issues and many ideas that can be considered.

Cheers,
- Deb Fels

Today, the FCC sent a follow-up to last week's gathering, which, via a circuitous route led me to the Collaborative for Communication Access via Captioning (CCAC) site: http://www.ccacaptioning.org/

Their "About" statement is as follows:

| The Collaborative for Communication Access via Captioning
| (CCAC) is the grassroots not-for-profit captioning advocacy
| community working for inclusion of text for spoken language
| wherever needed. The CCAC offers knowledge exchange, timely
| replies to remove hurdles and obtain CART and captioning,
| and consultation.
|
| For example, the CCAC endorses CART wherever sign language
| is used for full equal communication access. Membership is
| open to all who support the mission - join us now to
| participate in the valuable members' forum online. A
| national project, the CCAC welcomes international affiliates.
| CCAC is an all volunteer project.
