G'day guys, this group's become pretty inactive, is there any chance of reviving it a bit? I suspect many of you are following the IGDA Melbourne group instead, is this correct?

I'm (moonlighting) developing my first serious project this year, I'd really love to meet other Unity programmers especially.

Cheers,
-Stew

Hey Stew,

I think it's more laziness and being overly busy, but yes, I agree we should try to revive something.

Hey guys.

This summer heat doesn't help.
Maybe the group should also open up in Skype, just a suggestion.

My skype is 'tobop08'

Peace.

Skype's a good idea. I'll add you tonight.

I've been wondering what help developers might be to each other if given a chance to meet. Beyond drinking and complaining about Draw Calls, I wonder if there are any mutual benefits? I've never been to a 'code jam', but I wonder if there's something better we could aspire to.

Well Ben (Britten) and I have been talking about a get together that includes Unity specific talks including Unity dev topics like optimisation, platforms specific coding, good practices etc, plus the ides of having devs talk about their experiences and successes/failures for other to learn from.

But, to be honest, we just haven't gotten around to getting anything off the ground as we are both super busy getting games out.

Ben, you still here? Knock Knock?

I am totally into doing something like this, but as Seon says, we are pretty much totally shit at organising these things.

Lurking from the UK here - hey, you never know when a contract might come up in Melbourne ;)

When it comes to the content of sessions, it might be worth taking a look at what the London Unity Usergroup does? A lot of people go to that, and it's pretty good: http://www.meetup.com/London-Unity-Usergroup/

Would anybody be interested in getting together for a game of Settlers of Catan then? That's pretty harmless, as informal as an event can be without weed. Besides, I'm studying board-game design to better appreciate good turn-based strategy game design, and don't really have any gamer-friends in Melbourne besides my wife.

What do you say guys, want to trade sheep?

I'd be keen for this catch up.

Next w
Saturday, I'll have to scout an appropriate place. One of those gaming areas in the city, haven't done that since I was a kid being introduced to Magic!

Ok lads, I've found a venue. The BOYD Library in Southbank has meeting rooms, the smallest of which (named "The Prinicpal's Office") is perfect for a small get together. I'm booking it for next week, perhaps Saturday or Sunday. In keeping with my original plan, I'd like to meet a few of you interested in coming along and playing a clever board game with me ( info here or a video here ), to break the ice and learn a bit about each other.

The room can handle 10, the board game can handle 5, Who wants to come along, and what day is best for you? I'd really love a Sunday morning (11am onwards) time myself, but I'll see who's interested before I book.
