Hey team,

It's been a while, and I was wondering if there's some interest in
another meetup soon? Did anyone do the Global Game Jam with Unity?
Anyone doing anything cool? Have people been using the 3.5 beta?

1. Yep I'd be up for another meetup

2. The game jam was a huge hit and I'd say about 3 quarters of the Melbourne gam jam games were made in Unity (definitely over half)

3. Doing anything cool? Well other than making games not really but that's kind of kick ass

4. Yep been using the beta. It's pretty good so far although there does seem to be some kind of flakiness with prefabs... it may just be that I haven't properly come to terms with the changes they made to the way prefabs behave

I'm definitely up for another meetup :) GGJ was awesome. I haven't tried out v3.5 yet but I'm tempted to give it a go now that we have GGJ out of the way. When and where are you guys good for a meetup?

Cheers,
Chad

I would most definitely be up for another get together!

re: the jam: Agree with Tom, a huge increase in Unity usage this
year. I think only three or four teams used Unity last year and this
time it was more like 15 or 20. I spent quite a bit of time giving
out unity advice to teams in need :-)

re: new cool stuff: Not much, I have been working on the Gamebooks ->
Unity port which has been good. Spending lots of time in Unity again
is nice.

re: 3.5: avoiding it. WIll wait till it is properly released, and
then will wait a little longer till the bugs are worked out. :-)

Cheers!

I'm def up for a meet soon!

The Jam was awesome, plenty of Unity use and we were able to use the pro version over the weekend thanks to the Unity guys.

I haven't touched 3.5 yet, I will also hold out until it's a full release (which I am looking forward to).

In terms of cool, my Jam team and I are looking at taking our puzzle platformer and making a commercial go at it :-)

Oh, and I just released an update to Superflick today! Which took twice as long as the original to create so I guess thats kinda cool too...

Damn, can't believe I forgot to mention it, I guess I am still in Jam mode :-)

I'm keen for a meetup.

I didn't do the GGJ this year. I was there with Unity last year, but work got in the way this year.

I'm holding off on 3.5 as well. I'm concerned about the changes in threaded rendering because we're doing some stuff we may not get away with anymore. I don't think it's going to be a straight upgrade.

Cool stuff:
- We're doing augmented reality without using any markers on the iPad2 and iPhone 4s. We can make a mesh of some simple shapes on the desktop. ie you can run up a magazine ramp.
- Starting to prototype a new game (http://www.armello.com/) which is loads of fun. It's looking very promising.

Totally be up for a meet up.

Wasn't directly involved with GGJ (but damn pleased with the Unity use
'cause I can play more of the finished products on my Mac!).

Still been poking away at my little action/dogfighting game.

Still way too much to do by comparison for it of course - for which I
went up to 3.5. Enjoying the new particle system (Shuriken) a great
deal, and glad to have some basic iOS Game Center support in there
(which means one less Objective-C plug-in I have to write).

Downside is with the RC, building the iOS player results in crashes
when resuming the game after putting it in the background & putting
the device to sleep. Filed a ticket for it (440884) - hopefully
they're able to sort it out before the final comes out :)

Ok so let's choose a unix timestamp and GPS grid position for this sucker.

How about next Thursday, starting at 5.30? If we can get an idea
about how many people, I can try to find a place and possibly book a
room.

Damn! I wasn't fast enough, Alan replied before I could make my stupid
joke! (took me a minute to sort out the timestamp :-)

I will leave this here anyway:

1328832000
and
-37.811632;144.961252

But yeah, thursday is good, and Thousand Pound Bend is usually a good
place to meet, tho we may not have enough to justify the back room.

Yeah -37.811632 144.961252 sounds great although 1328832000 is a bit early, they should have room for us... if we have a big enough crowd we could poke them into letting us hang out in the back room.

And 1328808600 is also good. Either ||

For the sake of clarity, I suggest we shift to the Zaroastrian calendar which makes it GuruVar of Bahman in the Saal of 1381 Y.Z.

I'm down for 100 pound bend, perhaps this time I can get a Roo burger. Last time they were all out :-)

09/02/12 17:30 is good for me (seeing though all of the complicated timestamps are taken)!

No probs with the bend, but Feb 9's a no-go… Cocoaheads is on that
night too (and it's been booked first ;p)

The 16th on the other hand… is crystal clear ;)

In light of that, should we try and move it to the 16th then? And no,
I'm not going to translate that into seconds past the epoch ;-)

A meet-up would be fun. GGJ was great, and anyone who hasn't had a chance to see the games produced in Melbourne should check them out, especially "Aqua Battle" :) http://globalgamejam.org/og/games/16924/list
