Hi Everyone,

Am unsure whether this group is still active or whether anyone is
interested in joining a Melbourne development team, but if you are,
please check out the unity forum post
http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/107486-Unity-Melbourne-group-recruitment.

Regards,

hey jeremiah!

Glad to see some interest in forming a melb. Unity group. I know there are lots of unity devs here.

Do you ever get to the IGDAM meets every month? They aren't unity specific, but there are tons of unity devs who attend. I know that I usually end up talking unity to someone at every meetup :-). In any case you should come by just to spruke your group and meet lots of other unity devs if you don't already attend. Igdamelbourne.org

Cheers!
Ben

@Ben Hi Ben, I've never been to the IGDAM and I've only been getting
back into game developing for about 6months. I will take a look at the
IGDAM since I wasn't aware of it either. Are they all professional
groups (like a proper company with salary), because I am looking to
first form a Melbourne collaboration group first, before considering
converting to an actual company.

@lestyn Hi Lestyn, Its a shame you're on the other side. You there for
holiday or actually living there?

@miller Hi Miller, I'm happy that you are showing interests in the
group, but at this time we are mainly looking for Melbourne group to
meet up and have a chat. Should we not get enough interests for the
Melbourne group, we will then expand and try to gather more from
around the world.

Hey Jeremiah,

Yeah you should definitely come along, I think the october meetup is
tomorrow actually, at a place called £1000 Bend. The IGDAM stuff is
in the art gallery which is around back, down an alley, past a harley
dealership. It is a bit confusing the first time :-) I think it is
trivia night, so you might even win something if your game-trivia-fu
is strong.

In any case it is a good mix of studio types, indies like myself who
are making money in the industry (but I wouldn't call it a
'salary' :-), students, and people like yourself who are looking to
make games on the side, or move into games from some other industry.

There are heaps of people who are using or looking into using Unity
and it is a great place to drum up people to collaborate with. (I
know lots of little indie groups and studios who have formed from
people who first got together at IGDAM).

Anyhow it is super casual, just show up, have a beer, and start
chatting with people. If you want you can find me (most people know
who I am. There are a few Bens who attend regularly, but I am the only
Ben Britten :-) and I will introduce you to some other unity types.

Cheers!
-Ben

Hi Jeremiah,

Yeah, definitely come along to IGDAM, we're actually running a trivia night tomorrow at 1000£ Bend, near Melb Central. You'll need to register to come along though (bit.ly/p6Qj1v). They're informal networking and collaboration events, and we have them on a monthly basis, with different events each month.

Attendees include professional and independent developers, students, hobby and casual developers, and generally people who just love making games and want to meet other devs.

As Ben said, we have lots of people in Melb using Unity if you want to meet people. If you come along tomorrow night, come say hi :-)

Cheers,
Craig.

Ahh Crap, you gotta register? Whoops, I better get on that :-)

I should say that you normally don't have to register, but since this
is trivia night and there are prizes, I guess it is all bit more fancy
this month :-)

Cheers!

Hi,

Thanks for the invite, but unfortunately, tomorrow is a short notice
and I will not be able to make it. I will try make it to the one next
month. On a plus side, i suck at trivia, so I'll have saved myself the
embaressment :P

No worries, Hope to see you at the November meetup :-)

Also, I just wanted to say:

Holy Crap. Craig and I wrote almost the exact same email at the exact
same time. Creepy!

Cheers!

(and also that Craig is another person that pretty much everyone knows
and can introduce you to other Unity types)

Clearly both you and Craig have no work to do at exactly the same time too :-)

off topic, but I guess it was a bit rude of me not to introduce myself
first. I am currently working as an IT Support technician here at
RSPCA Victoria. Fix computers and stuff. Currently part of a small
development group, however, as mentioned in my OP, I am looking to
form my own group to design / develop games more aligned towards my
goals. Are you all working as game dev full time? or part of an
existing collaboration group working on a project? Is there any
completed project that I can look at as well?
