Unity just said in their latest newsletter that they are in communications with Apple and are trying to work things out, however Adobe has decided to cut their support that would have been in CS5.

There is another legal way, though: HTML5 runs in Safari, bypasses the App Store completely, and is the way they were going to run apps on the iPhone before the App Store came about. I doubt they'll block it since the functionality is required to render web pages in general (Safari (Win/Mac/iDevice), Chrome (Win/Mac/Linux/ChromeOS), Android (AFAIK, the Nokia N900 and now Steam all run on WebKit which is the most HTML5 compliant browser engine and several interesting game demos have been created using it (links later). Firefox and IE9 are catching up as well.)

I'm just wondering how Unity will stand up to HTML5 eventually. The systems are very similar (both use Javascript) but HTML5 is being integrated directly by the big guys (Apple, Mozilla, Google, Nokia, Valve, Microsoft and Khronos).

I wonder if Unity will create some way of integrating their content directly, or if you will still require a plugin to run Unity content with HTML5. I know that it is possible to run some rich content with HTML5 that you can't run without plugins before that, but I can't say what it is without an NDA (mail me if you want more info).

    Hey guys,

What's the Austin's group take Unity be compliant with 4.0?

I've followed the forums on the UNity website and am still awaiting
official word, but how is this affecting your business? Is everyone in
a wait and see holding pattern?

I'm using Unity for a non-iPhone/iPad project so I'm not putting
anything on hold. But I have been following it closely as it effects
everyone not just iPhone/iPad devs. I think things will turn out ok
for Unity in the end but nothing is for sure until we get an official
word from Unity. Regardless of how things turn out though, I'll be
really careful with any future dealings with Apple and wouldn't want
to put all my eggs in their basket.

This all makes me very mad at Apple. Also, their censorship of apps. I
used to be an apple user, but they have slowly eroded my trust. First,
after using a G4 for ten years, I was required to use at&t for their
phone. since then they've become more and more controlling. As of this
time, I will not be creating apple apps. When I get a new phone, it
will not be an iPhone. I am now officially pc only. They lost this
customer completely, and i was all about apple before.

My Unity project Revolt has been put on a back burner, but this is because of personal issues and not because of the news with Apple. The game is much to far along to abandon though and so I can only hope and trust in the relationship with Apple and Unity and with Unity's need to do whatever it takes to allow its applications to make it to market.
