BBC video was fun...! Immediately one starts thinking of a game where you have to identify which 'I' you are... You could call it 'Grammar Apocalypse'.

For decades, game designers have used the term 'immersion' to refer to how games get and keep the player's attention - and it's caused nothing but confusion and false expectations. It's interesting that just as we're dropping that term from the design lexicon, up comes the first peripheral which might bring lag-free visual immersion to the living room... =)

The Occulus Rift looks intriguing. Been following Carmack's investigations into this area post Rage and it's impressive to see him lining up to support it alongside Newell and Blezinski and others. I've pledged the minimum support for the Rift - will be very interested to hear how the peripheral develops.

The Emotiv Epoc. Goddamnit, Les, you have all the best toys. =) Would love to know more about that - I'm more than a little partial to sci-fi and that sounds more than a little futuristic. How do you find it yourself?

How's the Pi, by the way?

All the best,

    Hi Guys,

I thought you'd be interested in this Kickstarter project which could have
a big impact on Unity by making immersive gaming the next big thing.
    http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1523379957/oculus-rift-step-into-the-game
I'd love to use it to try out these out-of-body experiences .....

At the recent mini maker faire in the Science Gallery I was impressed by
the Kinect being used with the kids' programming environment SCRATCH. So
I'm in the process of duplicating the setup so that I can play around with
it and also entertain my grandson. It is encouraging that the developer is
an Irish guy! Checkout the video linked to from here:

I attended the BBQ at TOG the next day and was letting people try out my
Emotiv Epoc headset (14 sensors pickup brainwave patterns and wirelessly
transmit them to control a PC). One of the guys watching happens to be
doing his Phd in DCU- my local, and has access to a neuroscience lab and
has invited me to come and PLAAYYY!

I'm still interested in the IoT and I've been researching how it's all
going to hang together when everything is interconnected. This is the
product that has most impressed me- it could become as ubiquitous as the
    power socket!

I'm queued up waiting to get one sent to an accommodation address in the
    States!

    Regards
    Les

Oh, and might as well link the video for the first Occulus Rift software...

I dug a lot of Doom 3 and loved most of RAGE... But if there was any company that just needed to get out of the house a bit more...!
