Unity on Linux running Wine

Hi folks, bit of a long shot this, but you never know!

 

I have a friend who is using Unity on a Linux machie running wine. He did something, not sure what (neither is he) and it seems that Unity is now confused over the actual C: drive and the virtual C: drive. He did some research and found that re-installing V3.0.0. and then upgrading to the current version would sort this out somehow. He has download a V3.0.0. from somewhere but it needs a licence key which he doesnt have. Ever come across anything like this before? Any chance you know anybody that uses Linux/Wine that may have?

I know it's a long strecth but any help/pointers/general gossip :) greatly appreciated
