Hi,
I thought I'd introduce myself and ask the most basic of all questions: opinions on getting up to speed with Unity.

I'm a professional software designer and developer currently working in Canberra for the Commonwealth Government on business systems.  I know a variety of programming environments (C, C++, C#, Java, Obj-C), however I am weak on scripting style languages.  I have an (hobby) interest in the design and development of games (both entertainment and instructional).  I don't have any real experience in building game software however I do know how to build software in general.

I recently moved to the Apple platforms and like them very much.  Enough to learn Obj-C and iOS development.  Now I'd like to get up to speed with Unity so I can try out some of my game idea's.

I found what looks like a good set of video tutorials on vimeo, by the Walker Boys.  They also let the Unity forum know about their video's.  Does anyone know if these are any good?  It looks like they focus on javascript and I'd prefer C# (because I have experience with C# already).

ps. I have gone through the video's on the Unity site; they don't cover very much though.  I am yet to go through the tutorials from the Unity site.

Hey,

Don't know if those videos are any good, but I found the IO Development Diary video tutorials a real help when I was getting started with Unity. You can find them here: http://vimeo.com/channels/115146/.

Cheers, Simon.

You might also want to check out the Unity videos on 3DBuzz.com.

There is also a huge number of videos on YouTube by BurgZergArcade on creating a game in Unity using C#. Or you could check out his website http://www.burgzergarcade.com/

If you want the quicker/lazier way out, you should also think about grabbing a visual scripting system from the Unity Asset Store, such as Playmaker, Antares Universe (Vizio), or uScript (not released yet).

Cheers,

Chris

Hey

I did put some links on our Unity3D Australia site.
http://sites.google.com/site/unity3daustralia/unity-tips-links

Feel free to add more as you find good ones as long with a short
explanation.
When the list grows I will probably made different pages. At least one
with free resources and one with paid ones.

Regards,
Steven

Hey all, I'm learning Blender 2.5 & C+.

BurgZergArcade is awesome. Petey does a good job.
The TornadoTwins are good too.
Plus, occasionally the creator of Minecraft, Notch does some live
streaming & he posts the links via twitter.
