Hey guys,

I'm trying to put together another theme for gnome and gdm. I have a theme I like:
http://i48.tinypic.com/vfavia.jpg
but I don't like the icons very much with the unity bg. Are you guys up to unity-fying the icons? The only ones that I might leave are the arrows.

Regards,
Matt

Hey Matt let me know what your up too with the GDM theme I may be able
to create a KDM theme easily depending on what you use.

Jeremiah,

I'm not a real big fan of our current gdm theme. I'd like something little more sleek like our background, but still professional. I think it's a good idea if we can get a good kdm theme out of this too.

A vast majority of GDM themes will work with KDM it's only when the
GDM theme calls the "Classic" login style that we run into issues.

I just ran an upgrade with your latest pkgs and I'm gonna look at /usr/share/apps/kdm/themes/unity-kde4/  to see what it entails.

Matt,
I'm uploading a updated rpm and the rest of the KDE 4.4 Beta 2
Packages, give it about 30 minutes at least I have 650+ packages.

From now on I will, anyways all is well you should be able to update.
Take note I have some goodies in there. A KDE 4 Firefox theme, a
Firefox extension that uses the plasma notify system, and a package
that uses gcal and akonadi to grab your google calendar and contacts
to place them in kontact. I know it grabs contacts but I haven't
figured out the calendar portion yet. There's some cool stuff in
there. Right now I'm starting on digikam.

Have fun

Nice, when do we get a beta iso for Synergy? I might just go buy an EEEPC for it.

I like EeePCs don't get me wrong, but I think you would apprecaite this beauty:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115656

Yes it's a Celeron Chip but it's dual core and 64bit. If I can get my
hands on one it will inspire me to get my 64bit build environment up a
lot faster. With a 11.6 in Screen 2G of Memory and a 160G harddrive, I
don't know why they're calling ti a netbook ;) but I'll include it in
the Synergy fold..

Matt, i hope that i can work realy upto april 2010, then i should become a faster internetconnection(to time only 56kbit) ...
the question of me is, use only one base [UNITY] or mdv, to build my personel remaster, yes what i will do is a XFCE-system with full gtkdialog
as base for userchange-scripts so e.g. controllcenter... but now we have Xmas and i must have happy days with my childrens and my wife...

No worries, Thomas. I have been putting together a tinyme remake with xfce on it, that's why I ask. I just wanna get simple remasters out to give ppl tangible items to play with and test for us.

This does a couple of thing for us. Gets us testing done, generates more interest, and hopefully things begin to snowball with pkg requests and help from dormant pkgers :-).

Just those first 3 that I posted. If they had a more Unity theme touch to them instead of Dusty. Thanks

Would you like them in separate files and/or SVG files? I just posted

Separate files would help a bunch. If you wanna keep the originals as svg that's fine too. I can easily convert them to png needed by the theme.

Sorry it took so long to get them together for you. Got them all in
a .zip file - both png and svg. Messaged the click icons a bit. Don't
know if they're even usable because GDM might just make them highlight
on it's own, but I include them anyway. Thought it might be nice to
control what it looks like vs. what GDM gives you.

I find that the grey-on-grey of the plain icons isn't readible enough
for me. I prefer more contrast. Some ideas:

plain is brightened by one of:
- Fully-colour the central symbol like you show with "rollover".
This could make things too colourful and cluttered though..
- Add a thin line of colour outlining the central symbol.

rollover:
- If the plain version was only the thin line, full-colour the central
symbol.
- If the plain version was coloured in, then add a very thin border
around the whole box, just inside of the current dark shadow+border.

click:
- Do nothing special. Make this the same as the rollover. I never did
understand the idea of a separate click picture.. people know where
their mouse is when they click, and they know that they've clicked..

ruel24

Well, the original intent was to go from monochrome to color once you
rollover the button for a dramatic effect. I could simply make the
monochromatic icons more visible... Also, I'm not a Gnome user, and
haven't been in that environment recent enought to say, but KDE has an
effect where it brightens the icon on rollover and shrinks the icon as
if it were depressed when clicked on. In the old days of the Apple
IIGS, if you made an icon, you had to design the rollover and click
icons yourself. The OS did not have its own effects it placed on the
icons. I thought it would be nice to do something like that, where we
could decide how it looked in those circumstances.

I made some changes to see what everyone thinks (still have the
originals, though). For the normal state, I simply put the color in
the icons, but their muted. I also designed two alternative click
icons where they shrink to appear depressed, just like KDE does it. I
did one version of each like the rollover icon, only smaller, and one
version each of the brightened click version, only smaller. Let me
know what you think.

Also, you can mix and match if you like. Say you want to use the
rollover icon as the normal one, the click icon as the rollover, and
the 2nd click alternative as the click icon, that's something you can
do. I did a full set with all versions here so that you can see and
compare them. Let me know if anything will work and if so, I'll make a
complete set of individual files.

I personally like the plain3 / rollover / click1 combination.

Mind you, I'm not keen on the shine effect that this Web 2.0 generation
keeps adding to everything. =p
