Actually what needs to happen is we get a way to let the system know
through mimetypes that the .xz file extension is associated with the
right icon, and the system would display the same icon as is currently
used for .gz .&.bz2 files. There is no need to add icons, just use the
default as per the other archive-type file mimetypes.

So this is not really a job for pcmanfm at all, but rather for
whatever package provides the basic system mimetype definitions.

good call on that one, Steve... does anyone know what that is?  never really played with the mimetype stuff in Linux, and haven't put my hands on any mimetype M$ stuff in YEARS...

This was a request put in by Devnet a month back.
it makes sense if each file-type has its own icon with text to it (i.e. a folder with the txt like tar.gz)
if this is not the case.. then correct, tar.xz file-types simply need to have an existing icon assigned to the name.

are those the only options?  we wanna have something that is uniform and doesn't step on the toes of anything else... also, something that doesn't need to be reconfiged every update or branch release... do our current options fall under those concepts?
