Hi,
I stumbled over a seemingly ambiguous or wrong term when looking for some JavaDoc references for the concept of "compound" units and formatting.
As it looks a vast majority of sources calls the combination of two units like "
1
2 hours and 24 minutes
" a "mixed unit", see
https://www.cimt.org.uk/projects/mepres/book8/bk8i18/bk8_18i3.htm
while a "compound unit" is commonly described as a "combination of
more than
one unit, such as meters squared (m2) for area or miles per hour for speed", see
https://www.wyzant.com/resources/answers/200135/what_is_a_compound_unit_maths
It seems by keeping the term "compound" in the API or RI, we risk misunderstandings.
Please vote or comment on
https://github.com/unitsofmeasurement/unit-api/issues/184
, or here if you don't have a GitHub account.
Thanks,
Werner
